Just to be clear, @fordnation has money to fund our hospitals, to pay nurses properly, to ensure emergs are open and staffed up. He is *choosing* this for Ontarians, by refusing to appropriately invest in our public healthcare system. We need leaders who make better choices.
The accused staff have been suspended & are being investigated. @HonAhmedHussen, how possibly do you justify collectively punishing the people of Gaza, who rely on @UNRWA as an essential lifeline in the best of times and now, the worst of times, more than ever?
I want to express my disappointment with the ONDP’s decision to remove Hamilton-Centre MPP @SarahJama_ from the ONDP caucus – and this on the heels of a successful anti-democratic motion tabled by the Premier to censure her. 1/
Ableism is telling yourself that you’ll never become disabled; that you’re invincible and it couldn’t ever happen to you. ANYONE can become disabled and it’s actually inevitable that you will be once you age. Caring about disabled people is caring about your future self.
My biggest takeaway from the Titan story is that we absolutely could have coordinated, multinational efforts to ensure no migrant dies crossing the sea and we choose not to.
I don’t know how this isn’t a state of emergency. Two of the warming centres downtown are already full. People have nowhere to go. This system failure is incredibly cruel in -20 weather. We need more humanity in public policy right now.
Yes—janitors, cashiers, & line cooks should be able to afford rent and groceries with their paycheck and have some left over. That’s common sense and common decency.
If you tested positive for COVID, would you isolate for 5 days and wear a mask around others until you had 2 negative COVID tests, just like the CDC says you should?
Please restore my faith in humans.
I don’t care if someone works at Burger King, Walmart, Dollar General—anywhere. If someone is working full time, there is no reason their paycheck shouldn’t cover food & rent.
This shouldn’t be controversial.
When I tweet about chronic migraine I am BEGGING YOU not to reply with advice. I know you're well intentioned, but I've been dealing with this for nearly a decade, seen multiple specialists, and considered or tried dozens of solutions already. And yes, I drink enough water.
"At least your illness isn't terminal" have you heard of quality of life my friend? Yes I'm lucky it's not terminal but the whole point of not dying is...living. When you've got a debilitating physical or mental illness, the things that allow you to live become much harder to do.
The billionaires at Davos are "learning to live with Covid" in its true sense: ventilation, HEPA filters, FFP2 respirators, mandatory PCR tests.
Now the rest of us deserve to be #DavosSafe
If 2022 taught us anything, it’s that:
1. Denial won't end the pandemic
2. Public healthcare & education are worth saving
3. Workers deserve a decent wage & paid sick days
4. People always matter more than profits!
Let's act on these lessons in 2023.
Happy New Year. 🙏🏽
It’s staggering how often folks with disabilities are blamed for their disability or accused of using their disability to somehow gain unfair benefits.
