📣Athlone Castle Visitor Centre will close to the public from Sunday, 19 October 2025, to allow for redevelopment works.
Westmeath County Council is undertaking necessary improvement works at the site as part of a redevelopment project, supported by €3.2 million in funding through Fáilte Ireland’s Regenerative Tourism and Placemaking Scheme, co-funded by the EU and the Government of Ireland under the EU Just Transition Fund.

The anticipated reopening is Autumn 2026, although this date is subject to confirmation. We will share updates throughout the project and in advance of reopening.
We apologise for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause and thank you for your continued support. Athlone Castle Board of Directors & Management Team

When AI does all the work, what do people do? Society expects everyone to contribute but seems to not care when we reduce the ways people can do that. This is a dangerous road!
My wife just got laid off by Meta.
We knew the writing was on the wall. But I want to give a little background.
Meta a couple months back had a company-wide AI week. During this week Meta halted all day-to-day work and required all employees to familiarize themselves with AI.
At the end of the week, each employee was required to have the early stages of an AI tool to be used internally by Meta.
@EamonRyan Cities all over the world have functional mass transit systems. You lot didn't bother doing that bit though, you just wanted everyone out of their cars!
