Addressing many water risks in the cities like Dar, Tanga and Mwanza - many of which linked to governance and political realities, requires a meaningful engagement of public sector.
I’m glad to be facilitating this process in collaboration with @maji_mowi and @_A4WS in this process and contributing to stronger #WaterStewardship practice.

@grok@grok aren’t opposition parties also compromised in different ways? Feels a bit one-sided to paint them solely as victims when public trust issues cut across the entire political landscape
Good morning @grok, based on your analysis of the posts, would you say that #Tanzanians are thirsty for a ‘Messiah’ leader - because the existing political parties are too compromised to produce one? #Uchaguzi2025
The days. When lessons began with, ‘Vijana wangu… confrères, listen.’ I now know they weren’t just teaching us—they were raising us. 2013, and still grateful. #TeacherAppreciationWeek#Spiritans
As Dar es Salaam gears up to become a megacity (with more than 10 million inhabitants) by 2030, there are several key considerations for sustainable urban development. What should we do? So much, but here are few thoughts;
1. We must establish an integrated urban planning through effective coordination mechanisms among planning authorities, utility providers, and other stakeholders like real estate developers and investors. This will ensure that infrastructure development aligns with urban growth patterns that we must expect.
- We should also run simulation models to predict future urban growth and demand for public utilities to guide us on infrastructure planning, in order to optimize resource allocation and minimize inefficiencies.
2. On Affordable Housing, how can we build affordable housing and land use by encouraging mixed-use development?. For example, we can encourage mixed-use zoning to optimize land usage, combining residential, commercial, and recreational spaces to create vibrant neighborhoods while minimizing travel distances.
- Housing is getting expensive across the world. Affordable and decent housing is important in Dar es Salaam for the growing population, and we will need to rethink about the available affordable options. Innovative financing models and public-private partnerships can facilitate this.
- Also, we will need to do slum upgrading across 80% Dar es Salaam which is considered to be slum. Real Estate Devs, investors and Gov Authorities must think of investing in slum upgrading programs to improve living conditions for informal settlers.
3. With a growing population comes economic difficulties. How do we plan and do aggressive economic diversification in order to reduce dependency on specific sectors, while simultaneously create jobs?. We should be more aggressive in attracting investments in technology, manufacturing, and services to create employment opportunities.
These measures should go hand in hand with developing innocation hubs and support entrepreneurship to foster creativity, attract global talents and drive economic growth.
This afternoon, I presented my annual World Autism Month statement in the Canadian House of Commons as Jaden looked on from the gallery. Please take a minute to watch and share. 🙂
"April is World Autism Month and now 26 years since my son Jaden was diagnosed. Since then, I've embarked on an unanticipated lifetime of learning experiences.
For example, I've learned at home to always check for finger lines in the butter dish... or cupcakes... or just food, generally.
I've learned that an urgent 'ba-ba-ba-ba-ba' in the car often means an iPhone left behind or a missed Google Maps turn.
More importantly, I've learned that we tend to wrongly divide the world into people who give help and people who need help. In reality, as human beings, we are - at various times - helpers or helped, sometimes both at once.
Deciphering what Jaden needs or wants is often incredibly hard. But what I learn in the process – waiting on him, paying attention to his non-verbal communication, and assuming he has something to say – these lessons help me in every human interaction I have.
And right now, finding ways to better understand one another is something our world needs more than anything else."
“Decisions made in Washington are more important to us than those made here in Dar es-Salaam. So, maybe my people should be allowed to vote in American presidential elections.”
