The first time my husband asked me,
“Are you enjoying this marriage? Are you happy you married me? What are the things I can do to be a better husband to you?”. - I paused.

It didn’t look like he was playing, his eyes carried a depth of seriousness and sincerity. He wasn’t asking to be reassured. He truly wanted to listen.

I was a bit shocked, but deeply touched.

I told him how incredible he already was — how grateful I was for the man he had been to me, for the ways he showed up, for the love he gave so freely. And then, I mentioned just one small thing he could work on. Not because it was something serious, but because I wanted to see if he truly meant what he said.

To my surprise, he became intentional about it. I noticed the effort. I saw the quiet conscious adjustments. And in those changes, I felt something even deeper than love — I felt chosen.

It’s been a few years now, and every so often, he still asks me those same questions. With the same seriousness. The same openness. The same readiness to hear me.

I’ve come to understand something beautiful: God may start a marriage, but it takes two people who intentionally choose each other — again and again — to sustain it.

Love is not just found in the big moments.
Sometimes, it’s found in a simple, sincere question: “How can I love you better?”
