Today saw our first ever Arts Festival - Ascend. An amazing celebration of the arts at DTC. So proud of all students who showcased their dedication to the arts and we were honoured to have Arthur France MBE in attendance. Thank you to all that came and supported! @DixonsTC
Today our amazing technician, Miss Frederick, ran the first Creative Arts Ambassador’s meeting. They have their certificates, badges and art packs to keep to recognise the hard work put into applying for this role. Today’s first task; plan events for DTC Culture Day! @DixonsTC
Today Diane Edwards and student ambassadors from Leeds Arts University visited to run a fantastic workshop. Yr7-10 students created portrait collages based on their identity and had great fun learning new skills and building confidence in art. Thank you @LeedsArtsUni! @DixonsTC
A selection of Year 10 GCSE sweet paintings in progress. Students have been working hard on mixing colours and creating textures. We’re looking forward to seeing these complete and on display soon. #hard work @DixonsTC
A small selection of the Yr8 paintings from our bird project in Cycle 1. They are A5 in size and created using watercolour paints. We explored using different techniques and brush sizes. All 120 will be framed and put up as a collection in the academy this year. @DixonsTC
Part 1: This year we are marking Remembrance Day with our first poppy installation in the grounds of the academy. Every Yr7 and Yr9 GCSE artist has a clay poppy on display alongside some from a staff workshop. We hope all our families and visitors enjoy this display. @DixonsTC
Today, as we pause to honour the bravery and sacrifice of those who served our country, we reflect on the profound impact of their selfless dedication. Let us pay tribute to the courageous men and women who have given their lives to protect ours.
#WeWillRememberThem#LestWeForget
Part 2: Accompanying our poppy installation, students have made prints, paintings, collages and drawings to commemorate Remembrance Day. They have worked hard to create fantastic pieces of work and you can see them on display in our academy reception. @DixonsTC
This lesson made my day - my new Year 10 GCSE art group. We’re getting to know one another through working with clay. Making clay burger tiles; decorating them with marks and textures. Next week we’re making chips! #loveclay@DixonsTC
We had a fantastic morning celebrating the immense hard work of students in our founding year group. We wish you every success in the next step on the journey to the top of your mountain.
In my last yr as Head of Art and Design couldn’t have hoped for a better team to work with - Chanelle (1st full yr as Art Tech), Charlotte (our ITT) and Ellie (1st yr ECT). So proud of the work they have helped our students create. @DixonsTC
Loved walking into Yr8 Group 4’s lesson and seeing these fossils of the future being made with Miss Jagger. Students have been recording modern day life by pressing objects into clay and exploring different textures and surface. (Inspired by Gomersal primary school) @DixonsTC
It was great to have Yr11 GCSE artists in today to develop exam ideas - to take risks, fail in experimenting, discuss their ideas and discover how materials and processes work (and why they don’t). Such a crucial part of documenting AO2. @DixonsTC
Completing a performance walk and come across these stunning drawings by 8.1. Insect biro drawings in progress ready to develop into sgraffito work. Looking forward to seeing the next stage in development of our ‘Birds and Insect’ project. @DixonsTC
Today we held the Stretch finals, enabling our students to share and discuss such themes as Political Figures. The finals were a fantastic showcase of public speaking skills and students certainly gave our guest judges tough choices to make. Well done to all involved! @DixonsTC
I am so proud of our Year 11 artists in their gruelling 10hr mock exam. These are just a sample of the paintings produced (size A1 or bigger on canvas). This yr we asked students to paint someone that means a lot to them. So amazed by these outcomes🎨@DixonsTC
Year 10 GCSE artists have made a fantastic start to their Natural Form’s project. Students have been examining and exploring different ways to create textures when observing a range of forms. Well done Year 10! @DixonsTC
I am so, so proud of these Year 10s! Incredible outcomes for their first experience of 10hr assessment. I can’t wait to see what they do in Year 11. Well done everyone - a fantastic demonstration of hard work and resilience in the art department this week. @DixonsTC
