We would like to respond to the recent posts on X regarding the CCXT library’s broker rebate implementation and take this opportunity to further clarify our position for the benefit of our users.

Claims suggesting that CCXT contains hidden commission logic are incorrect. CCXT is a locally run client-side library — we are not an intermediary between users and exchanges. We do not process transactions, hold funds, or interfere with fee payments. Users connect directly to exchanges with their own API credentials and pay the same trading fees regardless of if they use CCXT. Technically, CCXT cannot extract any hidden fees.

We want to reassure our users that CCXT has always operated transparently. The logic behind broker rebates has been public and open-source from the beginning. To further enhance clarity, we recently added an explicit section to the top of our README to explain how broker rebates work. The broker IDs used in API requests can be fully customized by the user. CCXT provides default values only if the user or another broker chooses not to set them. Users can override these parameters as has been documented in our Manual — including sending their own broker identifiers if they wish.

Exchanges handle situations where a user signed up with a referral link and is also using a broker ID differently. Some exchanges will prioritize the referral rebate, while others apply the broker rebate first. The exchanges determine how the final rebate is allocated between the two.

The fee paid by users is the same whether or not a broker ID is sent with the order. Revenues from broker programs help sustain the continued development of CCXT as a free, open-source tool that benefits the entire crypto development community. Transparency and openness have been core principles of CCXT since the beginning. That’s why users have full control over their CCXT installations, with the ability to override any parameter in the code, including broker identifiers.

We have never restricted other brokers from reusing CCXT with their own broker IDs. In-effect, we’ve enabled others — including competitors — to benefit from our work. This reflects our broader mission: to deliver reliable, accessible, and well-maintained code to all users, in support of a stronger and more open trading ecosystem.

We deeply value the trust our users place in us and remain committed to openness, clarity, and ongoing dialogue. We encourage anyone using CCXT or any open-source trading tool to review the code, ask questions, and engage with us directly.
