Haunting cover of Bob Dylan’s "Masters of War" — aimed directly at those who promote war for profit. Choose ☮️
Come you masters of war
You that build the big guns
You that build the death planes
You that build all the bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks
You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly
Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain
You fasten all the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you sit back and watch
While the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
While the young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And gets buried in the mud
You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins
How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
That even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do
Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good?
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could?
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul
And I hope that you die
And your death will come soon
I'll follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand over your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

@maelan_sdmr In a large TAM, highly fragmented market, if $OPEN NPS (Net Promoter Score) rises while NPS for other players in the space remains low, that delta difference could translate to lower CAC with increasing market share. Nice flywheel.

At the start of the Covid pandemic, Ken Griffin rented an entire Four Seasons Hotel and turned the ballroom into a trading floor in five days.
His reasoning: "It's a respiratory virus. most respiratory viruses are less transmissible in hot, humid environments. This is just science. So we're going to open an office in one of the hottest, most humid parts of the United States that we can find."
What they built: "In about five days we assembled enough technology and infrastructure that we could run the entire US equity market if need be, from the ballroom of the Four Seasons in Palm Beach. We had 200 people working three shifts, five days straight. They brought in a portable truck with a generator to power the thousands of servers."
Nobody could leave: “You you could not come and go from the hotel property period. No one was allowed to come or get out.”

the more people you consult for advice, the more likely you’ll make a bad/average decision.
(1) ppl are, on average, risk averse...and, in quantity, will blunt your boldness.
(2) ppl may hate/envy opportunities they lack.
(3) ppl tend to mix cynicism (bad) w/ criticism (good)
For those who may find it helpful, here’s the Grok “explain this to me as if I’m a 10-year old” version:
Imagine the biggest, coolest video game arcades in the world. Places like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft built giant warehouses full of regular computers. People rent time on those computers instead of buying their own. Those giant arcade companies are called hyperscalers.
Now AI (the super-smart computer brains that make ChatGPT and robots work) needs way more powerful special computers. Nvidia makes those special super-chips. They’re like the fastest, fanciest gaming consoles ever.
The big arcade companies were a bit slow and lazy. They wanted to keep making lots of money the old way and even tried to build their own cheaper chips so they wouldn’t have to buy so many from Nvidia.
Some smaller, hungrier companies (called neoclouds) said, “We’ll take Nvidia’s super-chips and build better arcades just for AI!” They work faster and care more about making the games (AI training) run really well.
Nvidia looked at this and thought, “Cool idea!” So Nvidia started giving these smaller companies:
• Special software that makes the super-chips work perfectly together
• Blueprints for how to build the best AI arcades
• Help getting money from rich investors so they can buy even more chips
It’s like Nvidia is secretly building the world’s biggest AI arcade network… without owning all the buildings itself. That’s what the person means by “synthetic hyperscaler.” It’s a made-up (synthetic) version of those giant computer companies, but built just for AI and controlled mostly by Nvidia’s chips and tools.
Clark Tang thinks this is super clever and will make Nvidia even more powerful, because almost everyone who wants to play the AI “games” will need Nvidia’s special stuff.
@rabois Unit Economic Positive: get to the point where each incremental transaction sends some money back against fixed cost of running the business
Is $OPEN
• Proving marginal economics work
• Demonstrating accumulating advantages over time
• Getting better as quickly as possible
Here’s a lesson I learned from @Rabois around Doordash that is bullish for $OPEN if “number 3 is easy.”
👉 If your unit economics are upside down, the company will likely never work (you fundamentally have to transform the company).
Once you get to the point where each incremental transaction sends some money back against your fixed cost of running the business, then you're in a good place (unless the fixed costs keep rising too).
The faster you grow, the more money you are going to send back, and Opendoor seems to be re-approaching this zone. Assuming your fixed costs are relatively (or completely) stable, as long as you have more contributing dollars coming back to you, you want to lean in and grow.
If your unit economics are upside down, stepping on the pedal is probably the worst thing you can do (in almost all cases), but this does appear to be the case for Opendoor.
Opendoor is setting up for a potential natural monopoly scenario in online residential real estate (Zero To One 📖)
Companies need to:
1/ prove their marginal economics work
2/ demonstrate they accumulate advantages over time and
3/ get better as quickly as possible.
Directionally Opendoor looks to be on track for all three.
