Putin didn't invade Ukraine because of NATO. He invaded because Ukrainians were proving democracy works.

Historian and Pulitzer Prize winner Anne Applebaum puts it plainly: Putin looked at Ukraine's democratic movement and thought, "If they can do it in Ukraine, then people could do it in Russia. So I need to crush this."

That's the real threat Ukraine posed. Not missiles. Not borders. A working democracy next door.

Applebaum frames the war as a fault line between the democratic and autocratic worlds. Russia isn't just trying to take territory. It's trying to erase Ukraine as a nation, reduce it to a colony, and send a message to every country that the post-1945 rules of Europe no longer apply.

Those rules were simple: no invasions, no wars, borders don't change by force. Russia understood exactly what it was breaking when it crossed into Ukraine.

Šleseru slavēja no visām pusēm, veidojot no viņa īstu varoni.
Aināru nosauca par cīnītāju, saprāta balsi, patriotu, ģeniālu krīzes menedžeri un cilvēku, kuram vienkārši vajag noticēt.
🔥 Dažus oligarha izteikumus propagandisti pārstāstīja tik izteiksmīgi, kā padomju savienībā deklamēja ļeņina un politbiroja locekļu citātus.

🤭 Raidījuma vadītāji nekautrējās arī patrollēt Rosļikovu, nosauca viņu par populistu un uzsvēra, ka Šlesers, gluži pretēji, tāds nemaz nav. Domāju, ka Aleksejs, kurš šobrīd klejo pa minsku, tajā brīdī pamatīgi saspringa.
Tālāk izskanēja viss tas pozitīvo raksturojumu komplekts, ko par Aināru Latvijā izplata viņa adepti.

🤦🏻‍♂️ Starp citu, ēterā tika pateikts arī tas, ka Šlesera figūra ir kompromisa variants un var apmierināt visus. Acīmredzot bija domāta ne tikai baltkrievija, bet arī kremlis.
Domāju, ka arī tas ļoti sarūgtināja Rosļikovu, kurš cerēja, ka likme tiks likta uz viņa partiju.
Tā nu zaudē draugus, Aļoša!

🤷🏻‍♂️ Ir acīmredzams, ka baltkrievijā ļoti vēlas, lai Latviju uzticētu tieši Šleseram, un centīsies panākt šādu rezultātu. Piemēram, propagandiskā radio signālu mēģinās nogādāt Latvijas pierobežas rajonos. Un, protams, aģitēs savus klausītājus Latvijā balsot tieši par Aināru.
🇷🇺 Šai kampaņai, visticamāk, tuvākajā laikā pievienosies arī krievijas propagandisti.

Šlesers ir ērts Latvijas stratēģiskajiem ienaidniekiem ne tikai ar savu kritiku par to, kas notiek mūsu valstī, bet galvenokārt ar naratīvu, ka sankcijas kaitē tikai pašiem eiropiešiem. Tā ir tieši tā ideālā putina un viņa kalpa lukašenko aina — Eiropas politiķis pats runā par to, ka bez šiem diviem diktatoriem Eiropa ir tukša vieta, kas nespēj tikt galā ne ar ko.

❓ Cik vēl šādu “patriotu” un “krīzes menedžeru” mums piedāvās, pirms mēs beidzot sapratīsim, ka tā ir hibrīdoperācija Latvijas sagrābšanai no iekšienes?

It is not enough just to have the tools – you also need real experience using them and the same speed of adaptation as the threat itself. Right now, only Ukraine has this experience, only our soldiers do. And that is why it is important not to waste time or money, but to build joint agreements and joint results.

This should also be reflected in the SAFE program, which gives Europe the opportunity to rearm now and adapt our European defense production to modern challenges.

“Together” is the key word for Europe so that everyone is protected.

- jā, TEC atlikumsiltums tiek izšķērdīgi izlaists atmosfērā
- Latvenergo siltuma tarifa metodika ir nepareiza un sadārdzināta
- RS siltuma iepirkuma tirgus ir nepilnīgs un ļauj plēsonīgi pelnīt visiem siltuma ražotājiem
- RS pārvaldība ir slikta un akcionāru struktūra ir daļa no problēmas

Lēnām un negribīgi PIK iesaistītās institūcijas atzīst kļūdas.

Skumji, ka šīm institūcijām laiks kā dimensija neeksistē. Kaut kāda reakcija ir sākusies tikai pēc visa šī skandāla.

Zaudēti ir gadi Latvijas ekonomikai un turībai, šķērdējot siltumenerģiju un tarifa naudu kā pagadās. Pirmā norāde, ka iepirkuma kārtība ir jāreformē ir no 2014. gada! Melns uz balta to ir pateicis Latvenergo iesākoties NordPool ērai.
12 gadi bezdarbības līdz PIK saceltajai vētrai. 12 gadus jūs pārmaksājāt par siltumu un piemaksājāt OIK gaisā izmestajam.

Tā saimniekot nevar. Ir nepieciešama jauna politiķu paaudze, ja negribat katrā lietā veģetēt 12 gadus ar nevarīgiem ierēdņiem un koruptīvām padomēm.

Jebkurā civilizētā Eiropas valstī amatpersonas publiska pieķeršana melos nozīmē tās atkāpšanos. Bez jebkādām diskusijām. Meli nozīmē, ka ticēt nevar nekam, ko tādi cilvēki stāsta.

Savukārt melos pieķertais Jevgenijs Belezjaks ne tikai turpinās savas izdarības @RSiltums, bet arī paralēli sēž vēl divu citu publisko kapitālsabiedrību padomēs. "Getliņi Eko" un "Latvijas Autoceļu Uzturētājs". Atkritumu saimniecībā un autoceļu uzturēšanā arī ir ok šādas kvalitātes “padomnieki”.

Droši vien tikai nevainīga sagadīšanās ir, ka šāds vērtīgs kadrs vaiga sviedros vienlaikus izpildās triju publisku kapitālsabiedrību padomēs, kas ir vienas politiskās partijas pārraudzībā.

The IOC has banned not the Ukrainian athlete, but its own reputation. Future generations will recall this as a moment of shame.

He simply wanted to commemorate fellow athletes killed in war. There is nothing wrong with that under any rules or ethics.

The IOC intimidated, disrespected, and even lectured our athlete and other Ukrainians on how they should keep quiet about “one of 130 conflicts in the world”.

The IOC has also systemically failed to confront the greatest abuser of international sports and the Olympic Charter — Russia.

A country that started three invasions during the Olympic Truce in the past three decades, implemented the largest state-funded doping program, killed 650 Ukrainian athletes and coaches, and damaged 800 sports facilities in Ukraine.

These are Russians who must be banned, not the commemoration of their victims. None of them are “neutral”.

If the Olympic Creed says that “the most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part”, then @iocmedia betrayed it completely by preventing @heraskevych from taking part and betrayed 650 Ukrainian athletes and coaches killed by Russia.

We are proud to have Vladyslav who has not betrayed them. Thank you for your principles and bravery.

If Pete Hegseth, the most unqualified Secretary of Defense in our country’s history, thinks he can intimidate me with a censure or threats to demote me or prosecute me, he still doesn’t get it. I will fight this with everything I’ve got — not for myself, but to send a message back that Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump don’t get to decide what Americans in this country get to say about their government.
