We literally just went door to door, going through the publicly available list of NDIS businesses facing government compliance breaches.

This one was registered at a $2 million home and faced a compliance breach for failing to commence an audit.

Once again the ABC shows us exactly why Australians are losing trust in their $1.2 billion dollar taxpayer-funded broadcaster.

During Senate Estimates yesterday, I asked Managing Director Hugh Marks why the ABC failed to report on the shocking case of a 28-year-old Indigenous man who raped and impregnated a 13-year-old girl promised to him under so-called “customary law.” Commercial outlets covered it. The ABC did not.

Why? Is it because the ABC is reluctant to report stories that challenge its narrative? That it might show Indigenous Australians or culture in a less flattering light? That’s what I wanted to find out. Mr Marks denied it but then couldn’t explain why Australians were kept in the dark.

Australians deserve truth, not selective reporting. We deserve balance, not bias. And when our national broadcaster receives over $1.2 billion in taxpayer funding, we absolutely deserve transparency.

The ABC wants to talk about “reimagining” itself. I’ll tell you what it should start with: honest reporting, free from ideological filters.

Only then can Australians truly trust the stories told in their name.
