Every barrel of cheap Russian oil India bought since 2022; the saving was swallowed somewhere between Adani’s ports that shipped it and the OMC balance sheets that buried it.

Not one rupee reached the gas cylinder of the dhaba owner. Not one.

At India Energy Week 2026, Modi talked about ₹500 billion investment potential in India’s energy sector.

₹500 billion for who? Certainly not the man paying ₹2,000+ for a cylinder to run his ₹30 thali.

You want to know what a truly energy sovereign nation does when West Asia burns?

It activates reserves. It freezes retail prices. It absorbs the shock at the top; not dumps it at the bottom.

India? India made the poorest people in the country the shock absorbers for a global crisis.

And the PM, fresh from a CM-level meeting on March 27 where he thumped his chest about “energy security”, let April 1st happen without flinching.

Because there are 5 states voting and they still need your vote.

After May 4th, they won’t even bother with the chest thumping.

The West Asia crisis is real.
The energy security was always fake.
And the poor were always meant to pay.

This government didn’t fail to protect you. It chose not to.

From the 2021-22 highs when you hiked petrol to ₹105 in Delhi, then cut it by ₹10 just before UP elections, and quietly froze it there forever?

That’s not protection. That’s just not hiking something you already overcharged.

Now about these “under-recoveries” —

These same OMCs posted record profits when crude crashed in 2022-23. Did you cut prices then? No. Did you build a price buffer fund? No. Did the poor see one paisa of that windfall? No.

You bank the profits. You broadcast the losses.

And the elephant in the room your ministry didn’t mention —

Central excise on petrol alone: ₹19.90/litre.
State VAT on top: another ₹15-16/litre.

Over 35 rupees per litre is pure government tax.

If you’re genuinely absorbing ₹24/litre loss, just cut ₹24 from your own tax. Problem solved. Citizens protected. No OMC bleeds.

But you won’t. Because that ₹35 funds the optics, not the poor.
