Imagine an underwater Grand Canyon where corals have been growing since before the United States was founded. 🐠

Plunged in total darkness. Untouched. Protected.

Until one signature changed everything.

On February 6, 2026, that's exactly what happened.

The Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument is bigger than Yellowstone.

Its submarine canyons drop into depths we're still mapping. There are sea creatures here science hasn't even named yet.

It’s underwater mountains — millions of years old, rise from the ocean floor, drawing sperm whales and endangered right whales from miles away.

The cold-water corals living here? Some have been growing for over a thousand years. A trawl net destroys them in seconds. They don't grow back in our lifetimes.

The monument was created in 2016 for one reason — to keep this ecosystem off limits from exactly this kind of destruction.

It worked. Until February.

One person. One signature. Zero public input. No congressional vote. No comment period. Just a proclamation — and a thousand-year-old ecosystem lost its protection overnight.

Proclamation 11009 — "Unleashing American Commercial Fishing in the Atlantic"— erased the ban overnight. Trawl gear, dredges, otter nets. Now permitted inside monument boundaries.

And here's the part that should make you angry — this administration tried this exact move in 2020. Conservation groups sued. They won. Biden restored protections.

Now we're back here.

"I have stayed quiet for a long time because I wanted to judge this World Cup on football matters. But the deeper we get into the preparations, the more it becomes clear that football is no longer the main story. For that reason, I believe Gianni Infantino should seriously consider stepping down as FIFA President.

A World Cup should unite people. Instead, this tournament is becoming a symbol of division, political disputes, travel restrictions, and administrative failures.

We are hearing reports that Iranian supporters have had their ticket allocations withdrawn. We have seen the case of Somali referee Omar Artan, selected by FIFA on merit to officiate at the highest level, yet reportedly denied entry into the host country. These are not minor issues. They strike at the heart of what the World Cup is supposed to represent.

FIFA cannot continue promoting football as a universal game while qualified supporters, officials, and participants face barriers that appear unrelated to football itself. The organisation's first responsibility is to protect the integrity and accessibility of the competition.

What concerns me most is that these problems were foreseeable. FIFA awarded the tournament, FIFA approved the arrangements, and FIFA repeatedly assured the football world that everyone would be welcomed. If those assurances are proving unreliable, then accountability must start at the very top.

Leadership is not about appearing in photographs with politicians or celebrating commercial success. Leadership is about taking responsibility when things go wrong. That is why I believe Mr Infantino must ask himself whether he is still the right person to lead world football.

The rising cost of attending matches is another serious concern. Many loyal supporters who follow their countries through qualification campaigns can no longer afford to attend the tournament. Football risks becoming an exclusive event for corporations and wealthy spectators rather than the ordinary fans who built the game.

The World Cup belongs to the world, not to governments, political interests, or football administrators. It belongs to the players, the referees, and the supporters.

If FIFA cannot guarantee that all three are treated fairly and equally, then it has failed in its most fundamental duty.

The football world deserves answers, accountability, and leadership. If those cannot be provided under the current administration, then perhaps the time has come for new leadership at FIFA."

This is yet another blatant example of the Trump administration coming into power, breaking something that they don't understand, and then blaming Biden for the consequences. They are pathologically incapable of taking responsibility for any of their blunders.

"Dear @SecRollins: Did the Screwworm come from the trump Administration’s beef import plan with Argentina?" Lieu wrote in a followup post, boosting a report that Trump signed a trade deal with Argentina that permitted "unrestricted beef imports" from that country despite its screwworm problem.

Screwworms, which devour tissue and can kill cattle, have been detected in a growing number of calves in Texas. One case has been discovered in a dog. The pest had been considered eradicated in the United States for decades, but under Elon Musk's tenure at DOGE, the government slashed preventive measures and funding aimed at hampering the spread of the creature.

Before those cuts, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), spent tax dollars on monitoring and containing the spread of screwworm in Central America. It was one of the most worthwhile government investments on the books, because it helped stop destructive outbreaks like the one we're currently witnessing.

"Trump GUTTED funding for screwworm detection and fired 25 percent of workers whose job it was to monitor the disease," Congressman Shri Thanedar wrote on X.

We know who's to blame here and it's not Joe Biden. It's Donald Trump and Elon Musk, ignorant oligarchs who were so hellbent on slashing spending to pay for more tax cuts for the obscenely rich, that they didn't care what they destroyed in the process.
