@DKShivakumar Thank you so much @DKShivakumar Sir for all your help and support. We still remember when we visited you with our children, you took care of children first, and instructed everyone in your office to provide sofa to children for their comfort! A leader who cares for his masses!
A group of parents met me today to express their heartfelt gratitude for supporting the 60 day age relaxation for Class 1 admissions in Karnataka. This decision will benefit around 2 lakh children.
Our government will always listen to people’s concerns, respond with sensitivity, and work with commitment for the welfare and future of every child.
Limited to the 2026-27 academic year, the State Government has issued an order to consider children for Class 1 admission by providing a relaxation of up to 60 days from June 1 in calculating the age. With this, children whose birthdays fall within 60 days after June 1 (i.e., until July 30) are now eligible for admission to Class 1. Honoring the requests submitted by parents, this special opportunity has been provided under Section 20 of the Karnataka Education Act, 1983. Instructions have also been issued to make necessary changes in the SATS software to implement this order.

Karnataka government on Thursday announced 60 days age relaxation for class 1 admissions for the children. While, the child has to be six years to get admitted to 1st class in Karnataka, now 5 years 10 months child can be admitted to class 1.
@deepshanks023@Madhu_Bangarapp Thanks a lot @Madhu_Bangarapp Sir for considering this relaxation, and providing a much needed relief for so many children across multiple years and generations.
@KannadaRepublic I don’t understand the double standards here. Last year the relaxation was as per the norms, and now suddenly the parents are adding pressure? Especially when EM himself promised SEP and call the laws including 60 day relaxation have been ignored with no reason?

@ANI Thank you for bringing attention to a much needed topic! I really believe that the right steps will be taken keeping into consideration the benefits of all the children.
@ANI The rule that a child must be 6 years old at a given point of time is absurd. Germany, for example, admits all the kids who will turn 6 in the year of admission. This way, no child will have to wait for one more year.
#WATCH | Bengaluru | A parent says, "We have been following up for the last two years, when we met the CM, Deputy CM and Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa. We have got assurance from the CM and the Deputy CM. As parents, we want the best for our children. These are children born during Covid times, and they have already faced a lot of emotional and psychological stress. Making them repeat a class will take a toll on their psychological health. We have full faith in the government of Karnataka. I am sure they will prove 90-day relaxation to more than 2 lakh affected children."
#WATCH | Bengaluru | Parents of children who do not meet the Class 1 age cut-off criteria (6 years of age) in the New Education Policy hold a demonstration requesting the Karnataka govt to give a 90-day relaxation to ensure children do not have to repeat UKG or Montessori
A parent says, "It is not a protest but a request to the govt to promote children who have completed three years of pre-primary education to Class 1. Our children are not meeting the 6-year age cut-off under the NEP. For children, repeating a class will cause psychological stress. The institutions are open to it and don't want children to repeat, but we are waiting for the govt to give relaxation in the rule or expedite SEP implementation."
Parents of children in UKG urge 90‑day age relaxation for Class 1 admissions along with issuance of circular to all schools to ensure uniform implementation, in letter to CM
