This is why I wake up in the morning. Myopic critics pan my life's work as just building some SaaS company. But how many SaaS's have been instrumental to matters of war and peace? Without Docusign, thousands more would needlessly die. At Docusign, we are literally saving lives.
The CEO of Krafton (creator of PUBG) asked ChatGPT to create a "corporate takeover strategy" to prevent a company they acquired from hitting a revenue target within a certain time window (which would trigger an additional payout).
ChatGPT (against his lawyer's advice) suggested locking down the acquired companies Steam account to prevent them from publishing Subnautica 2 in the time window, which the CEO of Krafton followed.
ChatGPT's advice did not hold up at trial and the judge was not happy. The opinion is a wild read and includes several direct quotes from the Krafton CEO's ChatGPT conversation.
I feel like it's gonna take a few more high profile examples like this until executives start realizing that conversations with ChatGPT are not privileged and you probably shouldn't describe your questionably legal schemes to them in detail!

Delighted to share that @Reuters has won India’s most prestigious journalism honour — the Ramnath Goenka Award — for business reporting for the investigation that revealed how Apple supplier Foxconn rejected married women from India iPhone assembly jobs because they had more family responsibilities than unmarried women.
The story had immediate and lasting impact. Modi's government called for an investigation within hours of the story being published, and the women's wing of Modi's party, India's human rights agency and opposition parties all reacted to it. The story became a major talking point on TV news and talk shows, as well as in newspaper editorials. Indian labour officials visited the Foxconn factory as part of the probe. Foxconn changed its policy: the company quietly tweaked its hiring protocols. It ordered its hiring agents who helped recruit iPhone assembly workers to remove age, gender and marital criteria from job ads.
For some Indian women, a job building iPhones is a ticket out of poverty. Between January 2023 and May 2024, Reuters made more than 20 trips to Sriperumbudur. We also reviewed a candidate information pamphlet, dozens of job ads and records of WhatsApp discussions in which four of Foxconn’s third-party recruiters stated to prospective candidates that only unmarried women were eligible for assembly jobs. 🙏
It was an important story. Apple is positioning India as an alternative manufacturing base to China. India PM Modi sees Foxconn’s iPhone factory and Apple’s broader supply chain as helping the world’s most populous country move up the economic value chain.

Cargill using AI to get extra meat from beef carcasses. Its machine vision tool (“CarVe”) spots “red pixels” in images which are tiny flecks of meat.
The tool recovers 0.5% more meat from each animal, equal to 55 million pounds of meat a year (~$200m worth).
Particularly useful as beef prices are up 17% YoY as cattle herds have dropped to lowest levels in 75 years.
@Mark_AE_Wilson@charlene5791@NTVNewsNL@VOCMNEWS@CBCNL@StJohnsTelegram@TonyWakehamNL Refining our supply has very little to do with economic prosperity. At most gas and diesel prices will go down by a few cents a liter. Modern economic activity is not as energy intensive as it was before. What you are asking for is export controls, which is a slippery slope.
Got on the phone with a former Navy admiral to ask about the timeline for re-opening the Strait of Hormuz
His words: "How did you get this number? Don't you finance morons go outside?"
Due to local weather conditions and the presence of frazil ice along our Bay d'Espoir system, Hydro is advising customers that a Power Watch will be in effect for Thursday morning (January 22) for the island. This means we're watching the system closely but NO ACTION is required at this time.
Frazil ice is a slushy ice that often forms in lakes and rivers during cold, windy conditions like those we've seen this week. It can clump together causing ice jams for hydro power and municipal water systems.
Our teams are working to lessen the effects on our system and for our customers. We'll continue to keep you updated. #nlwx
Here -- I wrote about why AECO sucks for people mad that Canadian gas stocks aren't up.
There are lots of bright spots in the natural gas market, and lots of reasons to be excited about it globally.
AECO is neither.
The Epic-Apple contempt proceedings are over what Apple may charge developers if they send users to external websites to make purchases there instead of via Apple's App Store.
After yesterday's Ninth Circuit ruling, It will be hard for Apple to justify a high IP royalty based on apps sending users to external websites. *But* the underlying merits ruling recognized Apple's right to charge for access to its IP more generally.
Apple may now change its developer terms in the U.S. by imposing a license fee on iOS app makers regardless of payment method. In that case, the whole fight over whether there should be a charge on outbound links may become irrelevant, and there might be no procompetitive effect in the end.
Absolutely brilliant detail from the new Reddit AI copyright lawsuit vs. Perplexity.
They set a trap for Perplexity - a test post only crawlable by Google, existing nowhere else on the internet. Within hours, it was on Perplexity 😳
