Legends of Irfan Habib. He wrote extensively on the archaeology of Ayodhya, right from 2002 to 2011 he wrote over a dozen articles and a book declaiming how the theory that a temple existed at the site not only false in fact a mosque existed and Babur built his mosque over it.
He did not visit the site. He had no authority on archaeology. He did not examine the trenches. All he did was to hear from fellow-travellers like Suraj Bhan, RC Thakran and D. Mandal and read the ASI report, and formed his opinion. Archaeology unlike history is a field science You cannot conclude about the site without visiting it. Habib formed his opinion based in Aligarh.
Read about him and several such legends in my book

Legends of Irfan Habib.
Four historians came to represent the Babri masjid action committee before the government in January 1991. They were given the VHP evidence. These historians said they had not see every piece of evidence and wanted six weeks to study the evidence. Two of them RS Sharma and Suraj Bhan went to Ayodhya to visit the site. They went to Banaras Hindu university to study the archaeological evidence gathered by prof. AK Narain in 1970 excavation. Habib was then the chairperson of Indian Council of Historical Research. He got the ICHR to finance their so-called study tours. So Habib made tax payers’ money to finance their so-called study Muslim claim.
Read many such legends in my book India’s Rogue Historians.

The unravelling of Mamta and her outfit was expected but the magnitude and celerity of it even the BJP could not fathom. When you imbibe your outfit with perpetual antipathy sans ideology and political programme this would be your fate sooner or later. Uddhav jettisoned alliance for the sake of power and compromised on ideology. He met the same fate. The dissipation of TMC and Uddhav ought to serve a lesson to every political party. Ideology is a glue that keeps distinct units together.

Joke of the day. Kirti Azad call MPs leaving Mamta for NDA traitors.
He who changed three parties in ten years issuing certificates of loyalty to others.
This abominable person’s so-called erudition has single purpose: to rationalise corruption and violence. When Con broke prepoll alliance with DMK to join hands with TVK it was not a crisis for democracy. And when MPs from TMC forms a different group to join NDA he call it a crisis of democracy.
#WATCH | Delhi | On 20 TMC MPs writing a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, RJD leader Manoj Kumar Jha says, "This is not a crisis for TMC, Mamata Banerjee, or West Bengal, but a crisis for our democracy. There is no trust and no principles. One nation, one party, and one leader..."
Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar never wrote his autobiography. What is being hawked as his autobiography is in fact his short memoir Waiting For a Visa in 1936. He would live 20 more years.
Reuters is one of the largest news agencies in the world.
But look at the quality of their news.
They wrote that Abhijit Dipke was carrying the Constitution of India, but the fact is that he had carried an autobiography of BR Ambedkar.
@TheCinesthetic Before the Coen brothers there was David Lean and his Dr Zhivago. Winter, snow and chill that audience can feel. You can vie for the second.
All CJP is one side and our @VijayGajeraO on the other. He is equal to all of them. Unmasked their real faces. That’s what a real fact checkers should do. Hero it up Vijay bhai.
Completely agree and besides Cormac McCarthy there is hardly anyone who could generate universal appeal. You have the same stuff-dysfunctional family, past secret, adulterous people, nonsensical ideas. Like Agatha Christie who could invent ways of murder but could not move out of her feudal set up, the US novels have inflicted self-gratification.
You’ve been given a chance to have a drink with one of the finest spy novelists in modern history.
Which of the authors below do you choose?
A) Graham Greene
B) John le Carré
C) Ian Fleming
D) Alan Furst
21 people died in a horrific fire and civil authorities have suddenly discovered that the hotel where the tragedy happened has flouted every govt rule. The owner is booked. Lives lost. And the civic officials who turned their back without enforcing the rules are free. That’s bigger tragedy. The complicit go scot free. We hop from one tragedy to another without ever doing anything to prevent future happenings. Sad.
Ayodhya Archaeology trivia: The special HC bench took suo moto action to seek archaeological report of the disputed site. Before the ASI was called in, the bench asked for a GPR survey to decide whether any structure lay under the ground. Marxist historians opposed the move saying it was beyond the purview of court to fish for evidence.
Fact 1: the code of civil procedure empowers court to seek evidence if it feels it is crucial to resolve the case.
Fact 2: the minority judgment in the Dr M. Ismaili Faruqui case which challenged the acquisition of the disputed property, had said that more evidence required to decide the ownership of the case.
Fact 3: Marxist historians argued that the agency conducting the GPR survey, the Tojo-Vikas International, was inexperienced, unfit to carry out the survey. The firm invited the foremost geophysicist Claude Robillard from China to carry out the survey. Marxist historians spend days to look for some connection between Tojo-Vikas and BJP.
Fact 4: the GPR Survey confirmed that a large structure lay underneath the ground.

Ayodhya Archaeology trivia: Two Marxist archaeologists, Jaya Menon and Supriya Varma were nominees of the Muslim side to watch over the excavation. The allegations that ASI archaeologists faked pillar bases to support a temple theory came from them. They said they were eye witnesses to several such fakeries.
Fact 1: In all only three so-called pillar bases were such they claimed to witness. Comparing the discoveries with day-today registers and site notebooks, the court found their allegations baseless and motivated.
Fact 2: the court accused them of altering depth of trenches in their statements to mislead the court.
Fact 3: almost all the allegations of fake pillar bases were made when these two were at the site. The excavation started in the second week of March 2003, and these two reached Ayodhya in the third week of April. The allegations started when they were at the site.
Fact 4: besides these two, other nominees of the Muslim side admitted that pillar bases were indeed discovered in situ.
