as my love for self increased, my tolerance towards those who did not know how to love me, decreased. if you treat me in ways that are not in alignment with how i treat myself or how i treat others, then there is no place for you in my life.
It’s almost as if all the negative stereotypes about Black men aren’t true. Per the National center for health statics, not only are Black men the most involved fathers at home, they are the most involved fathers even when not living with their kids.
it is not my job to fix someone’s emotions. it is not my job to regulate them either. i release that responsibility and i let myself feel how i want to feel, regardless of how someone else does.
the communication can be as simple as saying
“i’m scared of opening up.”
“i don’t like when you do that”
“i need reassurance.”
“that is one of my boundaries.”
“i like when you do x because of xyz.”
“i need ____. can you provide that?”
“that’s outside of my capacity.”
hardest pill to swallow is realizing people DO NOT CARE. they’ll hurt you & really go on about their lives. not even slightly affected about what they did to you & how you feel. Regardless if it’s friendships, relationships, or family.
