On Tuesday, Oregon Right to Life won a huge victory in Oregon’s federal district court.
The court ruled in favor of ORTL in its lawsuit against Oregon's 2017 "Reproductive Health Equity Act" (RHEA) requiring employers, including ORTL, to pay for abortion coverage in employee health insurance plans.
Even though Oregon provided both secular exceptions and exceptions for other religious organizations that met the state’s narrow definition of a “religious employer,” it had refused to exempt ORTL, despite ORTL’s religious objection.
By exempting favored entities while requiring ORTL to purchase employee insurance plans that cover abortion, the RHEA plainly violated ORTL’s religious liberty.
ORTL argued that the First Amendment required the court to find the RHEA unconstitutional.
Yesterday, the court agreed.

I am devastated by the news of Charlie Kirk’s death. My prayers go out from the depths of my heart to his family, especially his beloved wife and children. May Christ our Savior welcome Charlie into his heavenly kingdom and may the Lord in his mercy be our consolation and our strength.
Deleted an earlier post about @msnbc. But what I want to say, the Lord is near the brokenhearted. And those who are angry out of broken hearts. I am praying for my friend Charlie that the will of the wicked will not be successful and that we see miracles today.
We face moments when holding things inside can slowly consume us. Jesus teaches us not to be afraid to cry out, as long as our cry is sincere, humble, and directed to the Father. A cry is never pointless, if it is born of love. And it is never ignored, if it is entrusted to God. It is one way to continue to believe that another world is possible. #GeneralAudience

Brothers and sisters, my heart is heavy in the wake of this morning’s tragic shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. Let us pray for those who have died, for the healing of the injured, and for the consolation of their loved ones. May our Blessed Mother draw near to comfort the families and friends of the departed.
It is especially heartbreaking to know that these students were gathered for Holy Mass at the start of a new school year when tragedy struck. In our grief, we turn to Christ, our hope and our peace, even as we renew our resolve to work for change. We pray that proper action will be taken to help prevent such senseless violence. May Christ guide us out of darkness and into His peace.

“It’s the basic understanding that as a society, how can we not take care of our children?”
Peace be with you all! This is the first greeting spoken by the Risen Christ, the Good Shepherd. I would like this greeting of peace to resound in your hearts, in your families, and among all people, wherever they may be, in every nation and throughout the world.

The Conclave has elected Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost as our new Holy Father—the first American Pope! Join me in celebrating this historic occasion with a Mass of Thanksgiving this Sunday at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Portland.
Friends, greetings from St. Peter’s Square on this extraordinary night!
Having spoken with Cardinal Robert Prevost, now Pope Leo XIV, a number of times, I know him as a man of great intelligence, experience, and prayerfulness. I hope his election will have a vivifying effect on the American church.
Let’s all pray for our new pope, Leo XIV!
Friends, our new Holy Father is Pope Leo XIV!
Born and raised in Chicago, Robert Francis Cardinal Prevost entered the novitiate of the Order of Saint Augustine in 1977 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1981.
The first-ever American pope, Prevost served most recently as the head of the Church’s Dicastery for Bishops and president of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America.
Please join me in praying for Pope Leo!
I am grateful to President Trump for appointing me to serve on the Commission on Religious Liberty. Freedom of religion in our country has been a central concern of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for decades, and I see my task as bringing the perspective of Catholic social teaching to bear as the Commission endeavors to shape public policy in this matter. In assuming this responsibility, I take as my model Fr. Theodore Hesburgh, the legendary president of the University of Notre Dame from 1952 to 1987. In the course of his career, Hesburgh served on sixteen separate presidential commissions over several decades in both Republican and Democrat administrations. I ask you to pray for me as I commence this important work.
