HAPPENING NOW: A day after @Pita_MFPms failed initial PM vote, the @MFPThailand submits an urgent amendment to Sec 272, basically barring the appointed Senators from the PM vote. A majority of them haven’t not voted for Pita yesterday, with dozens even absent. #โหวตนายก

The Move Forward Party (MFP) will propose a bill to amend Article 272 of the charter, aiming to remove the Senate's authority to vote for a prime minister. The proposal is scheduled for today at 3 pm.

To table a charter amendment, the MFP needs the support of at least 1/5 of the lower house or 100 MPs. The party currently has 151 MPs.

The MFP-led coalition has 312 MPs, which is more than half of the lower house, thus aiding in the passage of the bill.

However, the bill will require the approval of 1/3 of the Senate, equivalent to 84 senators, in order for the amendment to pass the readings.

Piyabutr Saengkanokkul, one of the leaders of the Progressive Movement, expressed his belief that many of the senators who chose to abstain from voting for the Prime Minister yesterday will support the amendment of Article 272.

He also believes that the entire amendment process can be completed within four weeks.
