“Every empire, however, tells itself and the world that it is unlike all other empires, that its mission is not to plunder and control but to educate and liberate.”
— Edward W. Said
Be the parent that has the slowest heartbeat, the most relaxed body, the emptiest mind. Be this so you can coregulate your children.
Our eldest son had a very complex day at school yesterday. Let’s leave it at that. Big feelings, big lessons learned, big conversations. He was completely overwhelmed when we picked him up. Tears and all. But because we have redesigned our life for the last 8 years around present parenting, flexible remote work schedules, and intentional slowness, we were able to take him for a walk in the forest, listen to everything that happened in the day, and connect in the way he needed us to be there for him. Yesterday was a massive moment for the growth and development of his character and it was essential that we were there as his parents, in a nonstressed state. I haven’t been able to stop thinking “what would happen if @franziskagonder and I both worked corporate jobs and could never be there when our kids need us for this?” And then I remember that this is a big part of why so many adults turn out the way they do.
In 1807, Omar ibn Said, a Muslim scholar, was stolen from Senegal & sold into slavery in America. He left behind an autobiography written in Arabic.
To mark the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade & its Abolition, a thread on the remarkable story of Omar...
I'm just tired. I'm unemployed and I've never recieved any real job offer.

A 🧵 || My Twitter feed of my people in Gaza is literally everyone saying goodbyes to each other and apologizing to anyone who they might have hurt. Asking for forgiveness from each other and solving any beef they may have had with each other.

An example of sham neutralism in Western media when it comes to the Palestinian struggle!
There were no "clashes"; it was and is a systematic aggression, a struggle against occupation & apartheid!
Thank you, @DrHananAshrawi 👏
This is outrageous. Twitter has suspended Said Arikat, a Palestinian journalist who is a staple at the daily State Department press briefings and pushes the administration on its lack of accountability for the Israeli government.

"A lifetime of beautiful memories hit me with a force that took my breath away... [but] I was not allowed to enter"
I just watched #Farha, a powerful, gut-wrenching film about a young Palestinian girl’s experience during the Nakba. Shamefully Israel is working overtime to silence & ban the film because it humanizes Palestinians. Watch it & you won’t be able to forget Farha. 1/2
This morning, my wife left Orlando, Florida aboard @SouthwestAir flight 1630 (MCO to PHX).
She sat behind this man. She had been attending the Grace Hopper Conference all week and was resting her head on her tray table, trying to sleep a bit.
Let me tell you what happened.
Apropos of nothing, here's a list of the organisations, experts, and other notable persons who have concluded that Israel is imposing a regime of apartheid on Palestinians, or recently warned that this may soon arise.

I used to run the 100m back in my school days.
I was the fastest in my school year and was used to that winning feeling.
All that was threatened when I moved from primary to secondary school.
