@thismomloves@sstollar6 This is great news! Trent seems to be one of the few schools that is consistently serious about helping teachers learn structured literacy principles!
If you're just getting started with cogsci/Science of Learning, read 'Make It Stick'!
If (like me) you read it when it came out, 12 years ago, read it again! It's AMAZING.

"Teachers will also only be able to use ministry-approved resources to ensure consistency across the province."
Teachers are in my inbox asking how the Minister plans to accomplish this. Who is writing all these lesson plans?? #onted
This document is so vague. I would love to have access to evidence-based lesson plans and resources that are aligned with the Ontario curriculum…but unless this project is already underway and almost complete, there is no way this will be ready by September.
Hey #OntEd - can anyone help me make sense of this? So the new govt resources - that may be available by September, maybe not - will be mandated, but can still be supplemented to help support different learners?
Sorry....what? #onted#onpoli

And yet the Structured Literacy training and OG Certification I took that cost about as much in time and money as a Masters degree is not recognized by @OCT_OEEO and has direct impact on my student’s achievement as measured by early reading screeners.
NEW! The brand-new Ontario Kindergarten Curriculum has been released.
Almost two years after I stood with the (now former) Minister of Education to announce this update, the document is live!

⚠️ Caution when interpreting EQAO (Ontario standardized testing) results. Reading passages can be digitally read to all students, assessing only the language comprehension side of reading; this assessment is NOT an indicator of word reading skill or full reading ability. ⚠️
I’ve noticed that student curiosity and questioning has grown because of explicit instruction. When students have a foundation of knowledge, they then have something meaningful to wonder about. Knowledge doesn’t suppress inquiry. It fuels it. We have to know before we can wonder.
The latest episode of Sold a Story by @ehanford and @CLPeak is out. It's called "The Cuts," and it examines the dismantling of federally funded education research. Worth a listen!
