@MikeWShell@jasonzweigwsj corporate profits are no longer variables inflated by investor hype. They are a consequence of the increased operational efficiency that human technologies have brought. They are not a "mean-reverting" variable.
And btw, what prevents that op.margin from reaching 20%?
@MikeWShell@jasonzweigwsj 1)If, as you say, shareholder payouts are falling, it means the reinvestment rate is increasing, and at a stable ROIIC, the implied earnings growth rate will increase (which increases the fair multiple).
2) Fair, but factors you just mentioned regarding record op.margins and …
@MikeWShell@jasonzweigwsj P/E ratio re-rating has contributed less than 100 bps to the annualized CAGR over these 100 years.
In other words, with a constant P/E, TSR would have been 9.2%.
However, I agree this metric can be very important for returns over a 10-15 year horizon.
@VJNCapital AMZN grew OCF at a ~24% CAGR over the past 10Y. Betting on the same for the next 10Y ignores basic math: at this scale, that growth rate implies tens of billions more every single year. No slowdown regime allowed. Big numbers eventually catch up with even outstanding companies
@Roland0Deschain@idafegonzalez - WACC=8%
