@TechmemePodcast Super interesting that todayโs NotebookLM version of the pod kept mentioning Hurricane Florence, which did cause major flooding in NCโฆin 2018. So the LLM correctly picked a hurricane that devastated parts of NC, but not the actual one that this story is about.
@marklewismd Thank you this example I can use in my PHYS 101 classes! Theyโre full of pre-med students who donโt understand why theyโre forced to take physics. I have learned so much biology, biomechanics, and medicine-related stuff over years of writing relevant problems for them to solve!
@WilsonCalvert I totally should have done that! ๐ Itโs staunchly holding at 80%, but also giving me the opportunity to renew AppleCare for $10/month. A new battery is $100, so that would buy me ten months where it was still worth it, so I might do it, ha.
My battery capacity has been at 80% for a few months now. My @Apple Care plan (and corresponding free battery replacement if it drops below 80%) expires today. Do we think it drops to 79% tomorrow or waits a week to be polite? ๐๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ๐
@mereeedithh So nasty! At the very least let him go out, with fanfare, at COTA. This weird speculation nonsense is absolutely uncalled for and undeserved. He has given the RB organization his allโhe deserves so much better.
@scottjus17 @kelslc A lot of folks experience way fewer side effects from Novavax than from mRNA shots. I know that is my main reason for sticking (ha, no pun intended) with them. I just get a sore spot on my arm, none of the systemic side effects a lot of folks describe after Pfizer/Moderna.
@kelslc I definitely looked at the syringe first just in case! Not a bad idea though to take a photo if youโre worried you will question your memory later!
@TechmemePodcast Honestly, do whatever you need to do to make the most money and keep the show going. Itโs too interesting and useful to risk! (And yes, would love more tech ads and fewer supplement ones, but for real, do what makes sense financially!)
@mereeedithh It was really delightful to see DR in Visaโs Olympics ads (at least in the US) and I was hoping that might spin off into a direct sponsorship, but youโre absolutely right about him focusing on racing making that difficult. (I just want him to be happy! Which he seems to be? ๐ค๐ป)
@ConfusedFoliage@kaekaecurtis I moved from (Houston) TX to (Baton Rouge) LA and even that, just one state and ~4 hours on the highway away, was a massive culture shock that I was not anticipating. Even just the culture around alcohol was hugely different. Plus, I was now A Texan, not A Southerner. Wild!
@JeffSechelski@TimLChandler@SpaceCityWX@BillyForney3 Right? Something not adding up is exactly how it feels. Buried lines do have issues (c.f. NYC after Sandy when some buildings didn't get power back for *months*) so they're not a fix-all, but maybe we should try them in some places? There should at least be a rigorous study!
@Dee13726578@TimLChandler@SpaceCityWX@BillyForney3 Same. And it's still done where I live now, in South Carolina. Does it fix all the problems? No. Is it the prettiest landscaping ever? Also no. But it really does seem to help when it comes to (not) losing power quite so often and for so long!
@SpaceCityWX That's the kicker, isn't it--energy capital of the world! I still don't understand how what should have been a relatively "light" (comparitively) storm caused so much damage. I doubt the state will do what's necessary to regulate better preparedness, but maybe public shame will?
Sidenote, highly recommend getting a UPS (https://t.co/0h7o2uQwjC) for your router and modem, as well as for your parentsโ and other family. Parents donโt have power or reliable cell service at the moโ, but every few hours we turn the UPS on and @TachusFiber connects right away.
