टीवी स्टूडियो में ऐंकर को मेकअप कराकर "presentable" बनाया जाता है, मेरी इससे आपत्ति हो सकती है मगर मैं जबरन मुंह पर पानी नहीं फेंक दूंगी।

सवाल CHOICE की है, जैसे मुझे मेकअप पसंद नहीं है। मैं इसे रंगभेद करने के नए तरीके के तौर पर भी देखती हूं।

1970 के दशक से Fair & Lovely जैसे बड़े ब्रांड ने रंगभेद को दुनियाभर में फैलाया । ये स्थापित किया कि जो Fair यानी गोरा है वही lovely यानी सुंदर होगा। कितने ब्रांड्स ने स्किन कलर के अलग अलग लेवल दिखाए। इस स्किनटोन से इस स्किनटोन पर पहुंच जाएंगे और "सुंदर" दिखेंगे।

नर्सरी की किताब तक में "सुंदर" गोरे रंग वाली महिला होती थी और "कुरूप" काले रंग वाली महिला। बचपन से दिमाग में फ़ीड किया गया जो गोरा नहीं सुंदर नहीं, इसलिए हल्दी बेसन लगाने का उपाय सुझाया गया या फिर उससे काम ना बने तो मेकअप का लेयर चढ़ाया गया। हर छोटी लड़की या टीनएजर लड़की/लड़के का आत्मबल तोड़ा गया क्योंकि लाइटर स्किनटोन को ब्यूटी से Equate किया गया।

मेरे और मेरे जैसे करोड़ों लड़के/लड़कियां इस रंगभेद का शिकार दुनियाभर में हो रहे है।

मसला तो अब सिर्फ साइकोलॉजिकल प्रभाव का रहा ही नहीं! उससे भी आगे है। क्या मेकअप के sideeffects नहीं है? स्किन ब्लीच करना सुरक्षित है? सारे कंसर्न के बीच ये इंडस्ट्री बूम कर रही है।

बॉलीवुड तो जीता जागता उदाहरण है। काले दिखने वाले लोगों को विलेन दिखाया गया, ये लगभग हर दौर में रहा वो अलग बात है कि अब प्रोग्रसिव फिल्में साउथ में @beemji जैसे डायरेक्टर्स से देखने को मिल रही हैं जहां काले रंग के protagonist फ़िल्म के लीड रोल में होते हैं।

सवाल सिर्फ इतना है क्या मेकअप भी चॉइस है या कंडीशनिंग का हिस्सा?

इसपर बहस कतई छोटी नहीं है, जैसा शायद चित्रा जी को लगा। ये कोई छोटा मसला नहीं हैं।

इस हैंगओवर का उतरना ज़रूरी है।
