My friend Denise lives in the SGV and saw this on the window of Arcadia Donuts. The owners were impacted by the #MontereyPark shootings & gave some requests for the public. Please support them in ways that uplift their recovery from this, and respect their privacy in other ways.
We don’t know motives yet, but I wonder how things could’ve been different had there been a stronger mental health & social service network. Yes it’s about gun safety laws, yes it’s about stopping Asian hate, but also a generation of #AAPI elders with a life of unaddressed trauma
WHAT TO EXPECT:
1. Introductions and community guidelines
2. Moment of silence for victims
3. Breathing exercise
4. Peer and/or therapist moderated open share
5. Closing exercise led by wellness practitioner
Lunar New Year, a celebration of new beginnings turned into mourning in Monterey Park, CA. Sending love to the AAPI community & families affected by this tragedy. @asianmhproject, hosting FREE virtual healing spaces. https://t.co/sg6pVdi8nT ❤️

Mymy Nhan was the first person shot and killed during the #MontereyPark mass shooting.
I've covered a lot of tragedies, and never imagined one would hit so close to home.
My husband's family is hurting beyond measure.
Here's a statement on behalf of the family.
We can't talk about #MontereyPark without talking about Domestic Violence in the AAPI community. The subject is still taboo but we must uplift AAPI survivors. According to @apigbv 55% Asian women in the U.S. report intimate and/or sexual violence in their lifetime. 🧵🪡
Monterey Park I love you. You hold so many people I hold dear. I find myself praying tonight and I don’t even know how. I am scared for my friends, family, myself and Asian community. I am angry and sad. I am anxiously hoping for my loved ones in the area to confirm safety.
