Identity used to be something assigned. Now it's something that grows.
The old approach followed a simple premise: predefine it, draw boundaries, assign controls. That model worked when systems were static.
But agents don't remain in the identity they’re assigned. They evolve through unscripted behavior and interactions, making decisions no one accounted for.
Yet the enterprises are already on the hook for what their agents do.
The teams that get this right won't govern them solely on their pre-defined identity.

Why do people say their agent “went rogue?" Agents don't intentionally engage in rebellion.
But they can drift. Agents stay within the boundaries we set, but they interpret those boundaries in ways we did not anticipate.
We keep seeing adequately provisioned agents do bad things in production.
Building a strong runtime identity is the way to prevent these issues from reoccurring.

The strong get stronger and the rich get richer while the weak get weaker and the poor struggle more. A larger disparity of wealth is one of the many awful outcomes of the #covid economic shock, a great unequalizer which is also worsening the inequality of opportunity and income.

“I want you to use my words against me. If there’s a Republican president in 2016 and a vacancy occurs in the last year of the first term, you can say Lindsey Graham said let’s let the next president, whoever it might be, make that nomination."
