Today we're announcing that hybrid agentic inference is coming to Perplexity Computer.
Computer can split tasks between a local model running on your machine and frontier models in the cloud. This keeps private data on your device and maximizes token efficiency.
Coming soon.
Today, we're launching shift. We're starting by cleaning your apartment in New York City, for free.
Here's how it works. Book a shift cleaning. A vetted shift operator comes to your home wearing one of our devices. They clean. They leave. You pay nothing.
In exchange, we record the cleaning. Robotics is being built on data about how people do daily tasks, and the value of that recording is what funds the service. Anything personal in it is anonymized before the recording is processed.
By now, you have heard about the shift to AI more times than you can count. About the shift toward you, the part where you actually feel it, you have heard almost nothing. Shift is what starts to make it concrete, in specific cities, with specific services.
Today, cleaning in New York. Soon, handymen, repairs, and errands across the globe. And this is just one side of shift, with more on the way.
Comment “shift” and we’ll send you an early access link.
I've been thinking of a creating a small fund / scholarship for designers from my personal savings.
Design has given me a lot over the years, and I’ve been lucky in many ways. Want to pay some of that forward.
Still figuring out the details, but I'm thinking of supporting things like AI tools, mentorship, tech gear, courses etc.
Would also love to hear other ideas from the design community.
If you’ve been there, what kind of support would’ve actually made a difference for you? Also do share with anyone who may benefit from something like this 🙏🏼
Design is applied intention in the process of creation.
The process to apply intention compresses into intuition aka “taste”.
AI’s primary affordance is intuition.
What you may have felt, I guess, is the tension whether AI’s decisions(derived from its “intuition”) could have matched your own, given you didn’t offload a major chunk of the reasoning for those decisions to the model, in a classical way.
The problem is that we don’t have conventional language yet to describe how we use ai as a design material in our practice.
How did you feel skipping steps?

We’re reimagining a 50-year-old interface - the mouse pointer - with AI. 🖱️
These experimental demos show how people can intuitively direct Gemini on their screens using motion, speech, and natural shorthand to get things done 🧵
