I'm sure this is often the case but many hospitals welcome you working with your midwives to customise your birth space to your tastes, whether it's putting up family photos or changing the lighting. I don't think pregnant women planning to give birth in hospital should feel discouraged. They have choices.
A delivery of the most special kind! 💌

When should you call the midwife?

Is your baby crying?
Don’t underestimate the comforting power of skin-to-skin contact.
New parents are often introduced to skin-to-skin at the hospital in the minutes and hours immediately after their baby’s birth.
But the benefits extend well beyond the newborn phase.
Watch how this little one calms and almost immediately returns to sleep when mom comes into direct contact.
In addition to promoting calm and comfort, research suggests that skin-to-skin contact improves digestion, blood-oxygen levels, heartbeat, sleep, and even the immune system (as moms pass healthy bacteria and antibodies both through their skin and via breastfeeding - which skin-to-skin contact has also been shown to promote).
This sweet duo was shared to TT by mama.quinnie.
@kiityc These 10 cases are so specific as to be deemed special pleading in this thread. Skin to skin isn't the problem described so much as lack as vigilant support for new parents who didn't know their babies have CP.
Thanks for the reply. I disagree that it can't be challenged simply because space is not always held for it. Are you talking about the Kangaroo Care research from the Seventies? I think there's quite a bit more that's been done since, including on term babies in developed countries. Babies are ofter separated from mums post Caesarean for routine procedures as well as the mum's wellbeing, and Caesarean rates are on the increase worldwide. I don't see anything wrong with Dads being advised to step in. https://t.co/rChvq0ISuF
