Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence @KosiniakKamysz, held bilateral talks in Ottawa with Canada’s Minister of National Defence, the Honourable @DavidMcGuinty.
The ministers signed a Letter of Intent paving the way for deeper Polish-Canadian defence industry cooperation, including in the fields of drones and emerging technologies. They also discussed new commercial opportunities, the joint Polish-Canadian presence on @NATO's Eastern Flank, and continued support for Ukraine.
The Polish-Canadian brotherhood-in-arms, rooted in a strong shared history, has an even stronger future ahead.

April 21 marks what would have been the 100th birthday of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Her late Majesty devoted more than seven decades to public service, including 70 years as Canada’s Monarch; the longest reign in Canadian history.
Happy anniversary to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms!
Enacted on April 17, 1982, when Queen Elizabeth II signed the Proclamation of the Constitution Act, 1982, it helps ensure all Canadians can live free from discrimination.

🇵🇱 Last Saturday, we joined Polonia in commemorating the anniversaries of the Katyń Massacre and the Smoleńsk air disaster.
The Katyń Massacre of 1940 was a series of systematic mass executions carried out by the communist NKVD of nearly 22,000 Polish officers, police, border guards, and members of the intelligentsia. It was a Soviet Russia attempt to erase the most educated strata of Polish society.
The Smolensk air disaster of 2010 was a tragedy in which Poland’s leadership, including President Lech Kaczyński, lost their lives while travelling to commemorate the victims of the Katyń Massacre of 1940.
On this occasion, on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence @KosiniakKamysz, Ambassador @WitoldDzielski had the honour of awarding Mr Andrew Kavchak the Gold Medal of the Polish Armed Forces for his outstanding dedication to preserving the memory of Katyń Massacre in North America. In the laudation, Defence Attaché to Canada, Captain (Navy) Paweł Podgórny, highlighted Mr Kavchak’s extensive work and lifelong commitment. Mr Kavchak is the grandson of Major Stanisław Kawczak, who was murdered in 1940 in Katyń.
Many thanks to The Oskar Halecki Institute in Canada for organising this meaningful event, and to our special guests from the @malopolskaPL Regional Assembly.

When Wisława Szymborska was asked in a letter why she was awarded the Nobel Prize she didn’t send a response but her secretary claims that she was very tempted to answer that it was “because obviously Swedes are weird.”
Szymborska’s sense of humour, playfulness and wittiness is also reflected in her poetry. Irony and deceptive simplicity are elements that are recognised in all her written pieces.
She lived a modest and private life before being awarded the literature prize. Her friends supposedly joked about her being the only poet in the world that didn’t want to receive a Nobel Prize. Szymborska often described the year after the award as overwhelming.
In her spare time, Szymborska was very passionate about making collages that she gave to friends and acquaintances. She is remembered as one of our most beloved poets of the 20th century.
