@DivineBloodBook@LastWeekTonight I never said that these are the main points of this episode. I can still be disappointed in positions taken during this and other episodes
@Grimezsz You're right on the benefits of zoning reform. A big reason you don't hear about it from Harris is that zoning laws are set locally. The federal government can't do it, they can only incentivize it
@drgurner Taxes on land should be higher than income and sales. Government provides protection and services which make the property valuable (what would you pay for land in Somalia?). Sales tax is regressive, and income earners can more easily move across state lines.
@somershade1 The city should do much better around South Station. My commute is Seaport-Purchase-Stuart-Tremont. Seaport Blv forces you into a R turn lane to 93. Purchase is narrow and unprotected and Stuart is full of downed flex posts and a half dozen cars in the bike lane
@berkie1@bostonbikeunion@StreetsBoston@MassBike @CharlesRiverCRC Would have been a perfect opportunity to directly connect the Longfellow bridge with the esplanade bike paths instead of the double cross
@ishapiro As another non-constitutional scholar, I'm curious about (2). The court can decide that pvt Universities can't discriminate by race, but they can't decide on legacies? And how is this different than the web design ruling? Could religious schools discriminate on orientation?
@paulg This is interesting and I'd love to see it presented with the full wealth distributions. However, your wording suggests it's a valid measure of inequality in general and it's too arbitrary for that.
🛣️ I-95 outside Philadelphia carried ≈160,000 vehicles daily when it shut down.
🚇 Boston’s Orange Line carried ≈ 200,000 riders daily when it shut down.
We need to stop focusing on highway spending at the expense of public transit nationwide. We do so at our own peril.
@SenWhitehouse I visited Port Clyde ME a few years back. A shop owner told me the Roberts estate ships in already grown crops every year so that the kids can experience growing up on a farm. It seems he thinks similarly about SCOTUS ethics.
@ishapiro Don't know, but probably. Do you think large campaign donations have no impact on policy? I'd prefer strong disclosure rules to monitoring every federal employee for sincerity vibes.
@EdforBoston No traffic on Dartmouth means emergency vehicles can travel faster and in both directions
I'm a Bay Village resident who drives on Berkeley multiple times a week. I encourage you to support the expansion of Copley plaza for public safety and enjoyment
@SheilaADillon The reason affordable housing is so critically needed is because of decades of undersupply (including this year). It's hard to understand how the solution should be more zoning and permitting barriers
