In my experience, journalists:

- come from relative privilege
- derive self-importance and power from the more important people they write about and the institutions that employ them
- use intellectual snobbery as a crutch
- insulate themselves in a social bubble of like-minded people (the so-called credentialed class) who they rely on for validation and approval
- feel underpaid in expensive cities
- delude themselves into thinking they have a bestseller in their head

Result: massive chips on their shoulders. It breeds vanity, contempt, and dishonesty.
