these things of course apply more to navigating bureaucracies of larger orgs rather than smaller orgs. but larger orgs tend to have more resources often with tacit methods of resource allocation with playbooks only passed down through dedicated, in-person interactions

noticing a big drop from last year in the sociability of interns without any change in objective selection criteria, which leads me to a few theories:

1) prime social skill development happens in late middle school/early high school, peak covid for this cohort prevented this

2) college c/o ‘26 might be the last one that majority defaults to in-person coordination for acquiring and maintaining resources; later classes probably default to online messaging, etc. but this will be less effective, as older generations control resource allocation

3) I’m not confident that they can, at present, learn to acquire organizational influence and the managerial/leadership skills required to maintain technical research programs—my mentorship focus is here at the moment
