@thephysicsgirl we discovered tonnes of cool galaxies with JWSt, from the most distant galaxes to active black holes, Little Red Dots, weird nitrogen loud galaxies etc. Happy to help with catching up
The annual Kavli JWST panic pizza happened again last night. Making sure we feed people submitting last-minute proposals that they started the day before. Because the best ideas come <24 hours before the deadline.
@WebbFeed Hello. Sorry but this is the most distant galaxy JADES-gsz14. It was discovered by JWST and published in May. The study above was based on new data from the ALMA observatory and it refined the distance to the galaxy. I hope this helps.
@Introspect_Rych@stefanocarniani Thank you! I played a much smaller role in the paper. Congrats on your paper as well! I am so happy two teams confirmed this!
We detected oxygen in a galaxy at z=14.18ish, refining the redshift. @stefanocarniani led the paper and we also confirmed the detection of carbon from JWST. https://t.co/pjBN1JQcO2
There is so much cool stuff to go over. The fact that we were able to constrain the density and metallicity of the gas. Or the fact that looking at the dynamical mass, we found a very low gas fraction. This galaxy is probably very gas-poor! Outflows in the past?
We confirmed the tiny green blob below to be a galaxy so distant it is seen when the Universe was only 2% of its current age, and… its spectrum came out as a huge surprise! 📈🔭 Read more in the excellent summary by @Kevin_Hainline who first discovered this galaxy 👇
