Some leaders are quietly proud that everything runs through them. Nothing moves without their sign-off. No decision happens without their input.
They call it dedication. Usually it's a bottleneck they built and stopped noticing.
The real test of leadership isn't how much the team needs you in the room. It's how well things hold together when you're not in it.
"We've always done it this way" might be the most expensive sentence in any organization.
Not because tradition is bad. Most of it is load-bearing and worth keeping. But somewhere in the mix is a process you're defending mostly because changing it sounds like work, and usually everyone already knows which one it is.
You don't have to overhaul everything. You just have to be willing to test one thing you've assumed for years.
