@HMRCcustomers Here is the heading on the letter the person has received: "Tax calculation for the year 6 April 2023 to 5 April 2024. You have paid too much tax. HMRC owes you xxx".

The tax deduction was done automatically. No tax return has been submitted. So do you reckon this is SA?

The UK arbitrarily "freezes" (never increases) its state pension payments to recipients in some countries, while simultaneously giving increases for inflation to recipients in many others. For example, Canada, India, and Australia are frozen, the USA, Israel, and The Philippines are not.
The result is poverty for many British #seniors & #veterans, mainly in Commonwealth countries. The UK is the only OECD country to discriminate against older people in this way.
Frozen pensioners fulfilled their National Insurance obligations just like everyone else, and each pensioner living overseas saves the UK around £2600 each year.
They only want what they've paid for and what all unfrozen pensioners get - a pension which increases with inflation.
It would cost the UK a tiny 3p in each £100 of pension expenditure to start uprating all 450,000 frozen pensioners from 2025.
We call on the UK Government to end this cruel and indefensible policy
