Very Encouraging News 🇸🇾🇺🇸

We attended last week’s Syria hearing at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
I won’t go into the details of the session itself, as it honestly did not produce concrete practical outcomes.

What matters most is what we did afterward with members of the Syrian American Alliance for Peace and Prosperity (SAAPP) — and this is what I would like to share with you:

We visited nearly 10 congressional offices in both the House and Senate.
The two most important meetings were with:

• Senator Jim Risch, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee
• Congressman Joe Wilson

🔴 Key Positive Developments:

1️⃣ Syria’s removal from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list is expected soon
— Most likely within two months, following the upcoming U.S. State Department report, which all indications suggest will be positive.

2️⃣ Mastercard is expected to begin operating in Syria shortly thereafter
— A very significant step that would greatly ease the financial crisis and the challenges of money transfers inside Syria.

⚠️ Concerns we heard:
• Worries that Syria could become a backdoor gateway for Turkey.
• Tensions between Turkey and Israel, and concerns that Syria could become an indirect arena for confrontation between them.

🟢 On the positive side:
• There is a strong belief that the anticipated security agreement with Israel, expected within two to three months, could significantly reduce tensions.
• The U.S. Administration and congressional leadership support Syria’s stability and understand that the Syrian government does not have a magic wand — resolving complex issues will take time.
• They also expressed satisfaction with the agreement reached with the SDF, considering it a step in the right direction.

Bottom line:
The overall trajectory is positive and encouraging. The serious diplomatic work being done today is beginning to translate into tangible results — and, God willing, what’s ahead will be even better.

The message will be blunt and overdue: the U.S. has tried this before. Massive investment in Kurdish projects in Iraq didn’t deliver stability- and repeating the same experiment in Syria won’t either.
There is a serious PKK problem poisoning the entire Kurdish question! The only viable way forward is for the Syrian Democratic Forces to fully integrate into the Syrian state.
No more ambiguity. No more parallel authorities.
This is the moment. Now or never.

Syrians understand the challenges ahead and we are not dreamers.

Syria isn’t perfect , and has been deeply damaged by the legacy of Assad’s rule, leaving behind a broken system and a divided society. But even in its current state, Syria remains central to peace and stability in the Middle East.

A stable, recovering Syria is in everyone’s interest including our country the USA.

To give Syria a real chance, the international community especially the USA 🇺🇸 must begin lifting sanctions and offering the country space to breathe, rebuild, and heal.

Syrians are ready to do their part. We ask the world to stand with us.
