Our CF community is growing. Today, because more people with cystic fibrosis are living longer into adulthood, there are nearly 40,000 people with CF in the U.S., and an estimated 105,000 people diagnosed with CF across 94 countries.
Flashback Friday: an antibiogram with all strains of S.aureus susceptible to methicillin! Also, itโs striking to see how limited was the armamentarium for Pseudomonas. #CFprogress
Today we honored a true master. Hank Fessler has provided over 16 years of leadership as the JHH Fellowship Program Director, training over 150 @JHUPCCMFellows The brilliance, the wit, the legend will never be forgotten
Happy Clinical Trials Day! Thank you to all people with CF who volunteer and give of themselves to help develop therapies and make progress towards a cure.
As a clinical trial volunteer, you are paving the way for new treatments. Learn more about participating in a trial, and search for trials that may be right for you and your family. https://t.co/WlkCM1PaTF
Nurses play a critical role in caring for people with cystic fibrosis. On #NationalNursesDay, we thank all nurses for everything they do to provide care and support for the CF community.
Friday Flashback: the armamentarium of antibiotics targeting Staph aureus in CF has also grown since 1972; the emergence of MRSA has also impacted therapeutic options. #CFprogress
๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉREGISTRATION IS OPEN! Current and Future Research Needs in the Era of Highly Effective Modulator Therapies for #CysticFibrosis virtual workshop. The workshop is free, open to the public, and will be recorded. https://t.co/52vrDF5uH3
Friday night flashback: displayed below are 6 antibiotics used to target P. aeruginosa in the early 1970s. In the last 50-years the anti-pseudomonas armamentarium has expanded and led, in part, to the significant survival improvement seen in the pre-modulator era. #CFprogress
Tailoring therapies for individuals with CF is a core principle of the CF multidisciplinary team. Collaborating with patients and care team members is a continual highlight of my role. #CFprogress#NotDoneYet
Looking forward to meeting up with many nationwide colleagues involved in CF clinical trials. We continue efforts so that ALL people with CF have access to effective therapies! #CFprogress
Flashback Friday: throat cultures to monitor the colonizing organisms in CF continue to reveal a similar microbiome as in 1970. In this HEMT era, throat cultures have become increasingly necessary as sputum expectoration has become less easy to achieve. #CFprogess
According to the 2020 Patient Registry Handout, between 2016 and 2020 the median predicted survival age was 50 years โ reflecting the continued progress weโre making in the fight against cystic fibrosis.

Friday Flashback to 1972: inhaled antibiotics were a somewhat nascent therapeutic option for PwCF. We now have many FDA-approved therapies for use. ๐งซ๐ฟ #CFprogress

Additionally as antibiotic-resistance has increased, we need to continue to support the development of novel anti-infective therapies. https://t.co/JUNV7T4OxL
Saturday Flashback ๐: Fortunately, the armamentarium for Pseudomonas has expanded since 1972; however, monitoring for toxicities remains important. #CFprogress
