@RyStar7_@coachneighbors@SkimMilkey Great question and faced in sports science: Goodhart's Law, famously summarized as "when a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure," make sure not chasing metrics instead of performance l.
@coachneighbors@reidouse Combine Coach's great info (which I need to learn more) with the fact that Luka was in >90% in decel among NBA players as a teen but also does it under control, per https://t.co/I5vFJgWWMF. Those smarter than I like Harjiv Singh mending skill dev & motor learning.
@coachneighbors@reidouse Great insight, Coach Neighbors. Love learning from great basketball minds with a systems approach. S2 Cognition is doing some great work, quantifying decision-making & the "It" factor
25 Years Old, Presenting for the 1st Time - From Anxious and Self-Doubt, to Confidence and Excited
I remember my first time presenting at a conference.
I didn’t sleep the night before. Too anxious. Scared.
50 people in a small room looking at me, a then 25 year old getting ready to present on optimizing performance and reducing the risk of injury in the NBA.
How are the slides? Is this content novel? What is my stage presence? Can I make them laugh? Will they relate? Am I really an expert? Do they think I’m too young to present on this topic? Am I going to freeze up there?
Damn it’s hot in here - am I sweating now?
Don’t stutter. Show confidence. Stop thinking.
It’s time. I Blacked Out
Killed it. Perfect timing. Like it was scripted.
Beginners luck.
…..
A year later.
100 people in a sold out room.
Excited. Ready.
Scared? Not a chance.
Y’all better keep the pens hot.
And now I present at a few conferences a year, host my own annually, and can stand in a room with anyone to talk S&C and sport science.
…..
We all go through it. I’m no different.
Put the work in. Master your craft. Take feedback. Revise. Get better. Repeat.
…..
Your dreams are 1 step away. Then another.
And as long as you keep pressing forward, you will reach them. So when you feel scared, doubtful, or inadequate do me 1 favor...Stay the course.

I'm getting back to writing and sharing!
I used to have a blog and write a ton.
I enjoyed both the process of working through and synthesizing my thoughts and sharing that publicly.
I am excited to get back to that and if you're interested in the science and art of sport performance then you'll likely enjoy what I am sharing.
Here are a few reasons why I am writing again:
⁃ I miss the writing process. I consume a ton, like most of us, but rarely sit down to synthesize the learning. The writing process will be the bridge between consuming and learning.
⁃ Over the past decade+ I have learned a ton, shared only some. This is a public declaration to sharing more for others to learn along with me.
⁃ I am building something special and unique in the performance coaching community. Most of that comes in the form of a flagship course. However, I acknowledge the price is a barrier to learning and connecting. My writing and sharing publicly removes that.
⁃ Writing online and sharing publicly means I can hold myself accountable to the process.
Here are a few benefits you'll get from reading:
✔️ Learn more about the science of performance coaching. I will review new and old research that impacts how I think.
✔️ Learn more about the art of performance coaching. I will share how I implement the science in a practical way to bridge the gap between the learning and the doing.
✔️ Learn more career and networking strategies. I will share ways you can go about growing and reaching your goals.
✔️ Learn other related things I am finding helpful in my career and life that may resonate with you.
Join me on this adventure—and let me know if you have any questions along the way!
PLEASE READ: As many of you know, I’m now the hitting coach at SAU Tech in Camden, AR. The other coaches, administration, and I have the goal to kickstart this program and create a place that recruits, develops, and competes at the highest levels. To help achieve that, we are…
