We were really fortunate to have Dave Gunkelman @salfordgroup and Corban Riggenbach @fennigequipment out for an equipment demo with class and talk about careers in agriculture. The Halo VRT is a super impressive tool! @osuati
Had a great day at TeamUp ODOT sharing results of our collaborative research project with District 8 to develop a quicker, safer approach to debris removal from bridge piers. Check out their new custom counterweighted Palfinger knuckleboom crane with grapple saw moving logs!
We had a great week of classes working with @Trimble_Ag technology! First, GPS data collection with the TMX 2050 and topographic mapping with the Soil and Water Conservation students. Then subsurface drainage in WM Drain with the capstone design students. #marketableskills
Rain-on-snow event has tested the two-stage ditch and she shines, while other trapezoidal ditches were flooding in the area. What if all the ditches in Indiana had mini-floodplains? #resilience
Got a bunch of first time combine and grain cart operators in practicum yesterday!!! Some even tried unloading on the go. Equipment class got the combine set up and dialed in for corn earlier in the day. Thanks to our Research Operations team for making it happen! 🌽💪🏻🌽
Great day calibrating rates, pan testing distribution patterns, and determining swath width for a product (oats) not included in the manual. Great supporters like #kubota and @Case_IH make labs like this and #HandsOnLearning possible!
Students mowed 30 acres of hay in @OhioStateATI equipment lab this morning with the R870R rear mount mower conditioner, yet the highlight of class seemed to be massage feature on the seat in the 7R330. 🤦♂️
Started class today with several excellent talks at the small grains field day and finished with a planter setup lab. Easy to see differences with combinations of coulters, closing wheels, and down pressure. The rain yesterday even helped provide “spring-like” field conditions.

Huge thank you to Sam Bauder and Nick Baughman for helping our @OhioStateATI students in Precision Ag class learn about the correct tools and proper techniques to make connectors and hydraulic hoses!
@OhioStateATI students learned how to collect GPS data today using WM Survey and got a little seat time in the KX057-4 excavator too. Great way to end a school week! #HandsOnLearning#Trimble#Kubota
So happy to be back on campus doing labs in person. 🎉 Today students learned distance measurement techniques including pacing, taping, odometer wheels, tacheometry, and total stations. Setting up instruments takes practice!
After taking a social media break, I’m going to ignore my own rule of 1 tweet per day. Other things our @OhioStateATI crops students have been up to: 1)Drill wheat, 2) Testing meters 3)Fall spraying, and 4) Soil sampling.
Check out the sweet @OhioCornWheat soil sampler! 🤩
Thanks to Jonathan Hofstetter at Lowe and Young our @OhioStateATI students got the chance to learn about and demo the @KuhnNA H-EMC-W 50.2 precision spreader. With a 79-ft swath width at 8-10 mph the students finished ~60-ac of rye cover crop in <1-hr! Nice, even spread too!
Harvest losses and combine adjustments lab today! Once corn is ready to go I think we’ll divide these students into teams and have a little friendly competition to see who can get it set best. @OhioStateATI@Case_IH#SterlingFarmEquipment
