@SenWarren Why are you so afraid of trusting the courts to do the right thing? Why take away the rights of homeowners and make them second class citizens in front of the law?
@HongPong@bphuang12@MikeConnollyMA ...while tenants are currently free to ignore all conditions of the (expired!) lease with no recourse available to owners.
@HongPong@bphuang12@MikeConnollyMA Real estate, like any other asset, is valued based on supply and demand. There is no particular mystery on the face of it. Underlying causes are many, but completely unrelated to eviction moratoriums. Owners are still obligated to hold up their end of a lease, even if expired...
@ShipsClock@bphuang12@MikeConnollyMA The point? The court is closed to all "non-essential" evictions, which in many cases are for tenants not affected by COVID related financial issues but overstaying expired leases, not paying rent, utilities etc, but blocked from being evicted.
@MikeConnollyMA@CityLife_Clvu@CPAJustice How does this help the homeowners who paid off their homes and are now stuck with renters with no proof of COVID related financial trouble but living rent free due to the "strongest eviction moratorium" in the country?
@HongPong@bphuang12@MikeConnollyMA Case by case. My tenants are 40 year old visitors from another country that we invited to live here because they couldn't afford Cambridge rents, and now they have basically said they will not leave and have taken over a third of my house. My millennial students don't do that.
@HongPong@bphuang12@MikeConnollyMA ..and of course haven't paid even the nominal rent in months. They do go to the beach everyday as we pay for their rent and utilities, and internet. This needs thoughtful solutions, not blanket moratoriums. Every case is different, why not let courts decide?
@MikeConnollyMA Blanket moratorium is grossly unfair as small homeowners are footing the bill for renters regardless of the circumstances. We are still a country with equal rights - let these cases go to court and let judges decide case by case.
@MikeConnollyMA Why do you not trust housing court judges to handle eviction on a case by case basis? There are tenants taking advantage of the moratorium to skip rent regardless of the ability to pay, are overstaying expired leases, and causing hardship to small homeowners
Lovely bike lanes from Kendall Sq, separated bike lane over Longfellow and to car hell Cambridge Street in front of MGH! At least the ER is right there when you get hit! Come on Boston, let’s pick up the pace on building bike lanes https://t.co/Pir4sbMzf7 @riparian
