UNILORIN Set to Adopt New Portal Payment System

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has partnered with Interswitch Limited to strengthen its digital payment system and improve the efficiency of electronic transactions across the institution’s platforms.

The partnership was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on August 31, 2026, at the Committee Room of the Vice Chancellor’s Office.

As part of the agreement, the Interswitch Payment Gateway (IPG) will be integrated into the University’s portal and other approved digital platforms, allowing payments to be processed through a secure web-based system that supports mobile devices.

Interswitch will also provide the technical resources needed for the integration and deployment of the payment gateway, with implementation expected to follow timelines to be established by both parties.

Speaking during the signing, the Vice Chancellor of UNILORIN, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, welcomed the development, saying the new partnership was expected to improve the University’s payment processes.

He noted that transitioning from the existing system could come with some difficulties but expressed confidence that the process would eventually deliver a more effective and seamless payment experience.

The Vice Chancellor further emphasised the need for a payment system that is transparent and responsive, particularly one that can provide timely feedback and enable relevant officials to quickly identify and resolve transaction-related challenges.

The Regional Head of Interswitch, Mr. Eloho Okiomah, also expressed satisfaction with the partnership, noting that the company had maintained a longstanding relationship with the University.

He assured the institution that Interswitch would remain committed to providing an improved and efficient payment experience under the new arrangement.

The Director of Computer Services and Information Technology (COMSIT), Prof. Sidikat Aderinoye-Abdulwahab, described the agreement as an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between UNILORIN and Interswitch.

She disclosed that the MoU would initially remain in effect for 24 months.
