I vibe coded a replacement runtime for the TC002 in Zig, new features:
Enhanced MQTT support (with Home Assistant auto-discovery), ntfy support, enhanced API and web UI, animations, canvas API w/ drawing primitives, and basic scripting. Very easy to mod!

Ulanzi TC002 or TC001 - which is better for Home Assistant?
TC002 is much more powerful: a 52ร16 matrix, 832 LEDs, Linux platform, speaker, microphone, encoder and buttons. It also has official MQTT/HTTP support, an SDK and Home Assistant Blueprints.
MQTT can already be used to display text, graphics and custom screens. But there is an important limitation: TC002 is not ESP32-based, so AWTRIX cannot be installed on it.
TC001 + AWTRIX currently offers a much more mature Home Assistant experience with MQTT Discovery, notifications, custom apps, text, icons, indicators, sound and many ready-made examples.
So for a ready-to-use Home Assistant information display, I would still choose TC001. TC002 has better hardware and more potential, but today it is more suitable for experiments.

@ZoidCTF how old is the old one? if it expired just as you open the app, it might still work (to ensure clock skew between the generator and the consumer doesn't cause problems). but if it's really old, it definitely won't
@JesseBlackSci don't be so hard on yourself, you make pretty good brekkie burritos. that's something to be proud of, not everybody can make a reasonably good brekkie burrito but that's a solved problem in the US of A
Thereโs absolutely no limit to this transformation. X will be the platform that can deliver, wellโฆ.everything. @elonmusk and I are looking forward to working with our teams and every single one of our partners to bring X to the world.
