I think the reason early SpongeBob is so permanently iconic is because the world is almost like something out of a classic Russian novel with how exaggeratedly cruel and miserable it is

@extradeadjcb I work at (and am a shareholder of) a steel fabrication company in the “urban core” of Lincoln, Nebraska. I think somewhere between 1 and 5 of the 20+ shareholders of this company live in/near the urban core. The rest live in the suburbs or outside of the city entirely.
