People will open source you. Thought bois will elegantly pick apart your product choices. Poasters will say nobody will ever use it, but also that it’s a commodity. That you’re the symbol of the top. That you’re cooked cooked cooked.

Until you’re inevitable. Then the idea was obviously good to anyone with eyes.

Fuck em and keep shipping. Coming up with one great idea means you can come up with the next thousand, while the replicators / NPCs are still struggling to copy your first.

And if you’re a mad observer, the best revenge is building something better—not extinguishing the flame of genuine new thinking, product craft, and the beginning of a new cycle for consumer software.

Build mad. Build happy. Just build.

A friend is hiring for a niche role. Wanted me to post it in specific groups. That's common.

But he came prepped with:
1. a full JD,
2. a blurb (3-4 lines I can add to chats/emails),
3. direct contact details, and
4. beyond-the-JD bullets for dealbreakers, level, comp flexibility, etc.

That is SO rare.

Folks, whether you want candidates or a referral to a role, it takes only a few minutes to make the ask specific, risk-free, and easy.

Most people want to help, but won't lift a finger for a generic "know any good FDEs?" or "I'm looking for a role, anything in your network for me?"

On that note, if you know any India-based IIM/XL/FMS/etc. grads with 4-10 years at McK/BCG/IB/etc., looking to go hands-on and work closely with ex-BCG/HBS leadership in Africa, please ask them to DM me :). Big projects, seat at the right tables (board, govt., etc.), great post-tax comp, all expenses, and unlimited advancement opportunities.

Binary search, road trip version.

Wife (S) and daughter (A, 9yo) playing guess-the-number. Range 1 to 100. Every wrong guess gets a “higher” or “lower” hint.

Wife picks a number.
A: Umm, can I cheat a bit ma?
S and I look at each other: You bet!
A: 50
S: Higher
A: 75
S: Lower
A: 62
S: Higher
And so it went.

My wife and I were grinning ear-to-ear the rest of the drive :).
