How the Weak Prevail, by evolutionary anthropologist Scott Atran: People in the throes of sacred values don't capitulate, even when they sustain tremendous damage. A psychological insight that war planners should understand. https://t.co/zdJljKm8BT
Elsewhere he has noted that the morally more committed side often prevails against a stronger adversary: North Vietnam vs US, Afghanistan vs Russia and then US; Israel in 1948; perhaps the American colonists ("our sacred honor") vs Britain.

Interesting analysis (and data) by Scott Atran on what sustains wars: Will to Fight Versus Military Might - with special attention to Israel & the Palestinians. Practical sweeteners can make peace less likely, since devoted actors feel like sellouts, whereas ethereal apologies and symbols can nudge them toward agreements. https://t.co/nCGzrjaQgn
@NewsfromScience Knowing nothing whatever of Minerva programs, of how our combatant commands make daily use of the tools developed to keep the country safe, people make nonsensical remarks about their pet peeves like woke that have nothing at all to do with the research.
@NewsfromScience Tools developed thru Minerva located militia preventing evacuation of US personnel from Khartoum, found ISIS hideouts, tracked illicit trafficking by drug cartels, identified Chinese suppliers of Fentanyl, etc. The 2024 physics Nobel went to psychologist research that enabled AI.
Had an amazing time speaking at Neuropaz in Medellín, Colombia. Was great speaking about our @XCEPT_Research on mental health/trauma in political violence & meeting w/ local activists, researchers & policy makers about the challenges & successes of the peace process in Colombia.
This seems like a very important paper. Beyond the interesting effects in ed setting, it shows the importance of inclusion to welfare of Palestinians in Israel. Unlike the Nation State law which effectively tells Palestinians that they do not belong.
