@JoeBidensother1 @JDatYouMas @garysaidthat@nytimes There's a difference between telling people to consider factors other than race vs. telling them to stop making "everything" about race, which in much discourse (unfortunately including this one) actually reads as, stop making "anything" about race.
@JoeBidensother1 @JDatYouMas @garysaidthat@nytimes These numbers as is are meaningless. Of course same race violence is higher--people tend to acquaint with their own race, and violent incidents often occur between acquaintances (ex. domestic violence). Why racism is being brought up now is obviously due to the context.
@MovickP1 @M_Jensen23 @TankGirlTude @xannikinsx@Cobra1A Penny: try not going anywhere where there might be bullies
Also Penny: you have to stand up to bullies

@elvy_landa@nytimes Genetic mutations when the virus replicates. RNA viruses have a particularly high mutation rate--similarly, flu viruses mutate very often, so we need the flu shot every year and its efficacy varies each time
@cliffordlevy@nytimes The comments being all like "well she cOulD have saiD nO" are ridiculous. When in Rome, do as the Romans do. The US is not a place where strangers put their hands on your face willy-nilly. NYC is especially not such a place. Cuomo isn't some child who wouldn't know this.
@tajiinaa hello #WIQChat ! First time joining. I'm Emily, I write SFF. My favorite piece of advice comes from Mitchell's The Bone Clocks--rate all your similes/metaphors on a 5 star scale and get rid of anything 3 or below. That character wasn't a role model but was a good writer so...
@buzzdlightqueer@MEActNOW@eeberquist@petiteaitza you've missed the point. you're free to complain about stuff he's done. you have no grounds to complain that stuff isn't being done fast enough. ppl all supporting their friends for not being productive this pandemic but once it's strangers it's all 'why you a lazy bitch'
@buzzdlightqueer@MEActNOW@eeberquist@petiteaitza this is like asking 'how long did it take mickey to do the dishes' while glaring judgingly at john who's got the house to clean and a smashed windshield and 5 kids he's not planning to just neglect
@WhatYoNamee@GeneforTexas If my parents were suddenly in freezing weather with no heat, I would not leave them for Cancun. I wouldn't even want to be on vacation. The people he is responsible for are in a crisis. He should've donated his seat to someone if possible, definitely not leave himself.
@gregcloney@nytimes@Helen121 Yeah that's great for meetings with good chairs. Meanwhile, data shows lots of us wait for men to stop talking. A study showed teachers will think girls talked more in a class when actually boys talked 2-3x more. We shouldn't put more stock in what an 83yo Japanese man thinks
@gregcloney@nytimes@Helen121 Perhaps true, women add words to be "nice" and soften their point, so men make more points per word. Yet meetings end up dominated by men making irrelevant points/rediscovering previous points they didn't listen to the first time. Mori is wrong about who wastes more meeting time.
If you're an agent who reps adult SF, the #Pitchwars showcase this year has some of the strongest SF books I've seen in my years with the program, and they haven't gotten nearly enough attention. DM me if you need help getting signed up to request.

@gregcloney@nytimes@Helen121 the research says no, my friend. But don't take my word for it; you can record your own meetings and see the % of time each dude takes up vs. gal. As a bonus, you can try to guess the % beforehand and see how close you are.
@BioMathJason@DanaGoldstein ? Are you saying that because men are ~60% of deaths that no COVID-free husband should be expected to lift a finger at home? Because that's how this reads as a reply to this thread.
@jtmhunts@mmcintire@nytimes @ddknyt I'll also ask for the Antifa article once they storm our capitol and plot to kidnap governors and tell you they have a right to be armed and that reason is, specifically, you
@MikeKorybski @hueman_disaster @MandyWeese @MarxMelley @kovalevrulz27 @JohnFetterman look, you've taken your econ 101 model too far. Yes of course supply/demand says abolish min wage and eventually things get sorted. But people will die and maybe that's not ideal?? Economists calculate the cost of a human life is 10 mil. At least argue for basic income instead.
