I have made urgent call to Israel to immediately release Dr Hussam Abu Safiya.
He is held under conditions violating international rights and the Mandela Rules
Dr Safiya is a civilian and a medical doctor who was giving care to patients. The practice of medicine is not a crime.
Dr. Abu Safiya is my medical colleague, as he is a colleague for all of us who work in healthcare around the world. Our Palestinian healthcare worker colleagues deserve every bit of our solidarity.

Dr. Hussam Abu Safia, held in Israeli prisons without charge since December 2024, is being tortured and on the verge of death, according to his lawyer who found him badly beaten on July 2nd.
Al Jazeera’s Hannah Raslan explains.
You read this again and again and your brain melts because how is it that a man who is so clearly innocent, so incredibly courageous, so obviously a hero against the most evil villains, abandoned by the world to his torturers.
Israel holds thousands of Palestinian hostages in the most well-documented network of rape dungeons on earth.
Mainstream media ignores their plight because they are Palestinian, rather than Jewish, hostages.
Scandalous.
18 months in arbitrary detention. No charge. No evidence. Torture attested by his lawyer, marks visible on his body.
And instead of covering this, @BBC amplifies Israel's unproven claims casting doubt on a hostage doctor.
>BBC's journalism in the time of genocide.
🚨 NEW: Israel has responded to a High Court petition over the detention of Gaza physician Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, saying he has been examined several times since being transferred to the underground Rakefet detention facility.
Physicians for Human Rights Israel (PHRI) said the state failed to explain why the examinations were necessary, what they found, or respond to allegations from his lawyer that he suffered severe injuries and repeated loss of consciousness.
PHRI said the response raises new questions about Abu Safiya’s condition.
Israel also asked the court to dismiss, without a hearing, PHRI’s petition seeking the release of 14 Gaza doctors, including Dr. Abu Safiya, held without charge. PHRI said the response fails to address their continued detention.
Exclusive: US military commanders bypassed warnings that intel on potential targets in Iran was severely out of date & approved some strikes — including one that hit a school, killing nearly 200 hundred children & adults -- based on years-old info that was not updated before war started, per multiple sources.
"¿No sienten nada por los niños palestinos mutilados por las bombas? Se supone que el futbol es para que difunda humanidad, sin embargo, todos siguen callados mientras estos niños siguen muriendo".
Hossam Hassan, entrenador de Egipto en el Mundial de la FIFA, recordó a los niños palestinos asesinados por "Israel" durante su última rueda de prensa en el Mundial, denunciando la hipocresía y la cobardía del mundo ante el genocidio en Gaza.
My gosh.
Yesterday, Egypt Coach Hossam Hassan asked FIFA to use its "soft power" to help Palestinians.
Today, just as the Egypt-Argentina match began, Israel killed Mohammed al-Wahidi, of the Egyptian Relief Committee in Gaza — which also organized Gaza screenings of the matches.
Israeli soldiers are reportedly torturing Dr Abu Safya --a pediatrician, for God's sake!
Without strong pressure on Israel, these may could be his last hours.
@ICRCPresident@DrTedros
I am gravely concerned by reports of a severe deterioration in the condition of Dr. Abu Safiyah.
We reiterate our demands for his release, along with all other doctors being held without charge.
BREAKING (bones)
Why does "Bring Them Home" exist only for some hostages?
Because in Apartheid Israel, where only Jewish lives matter, brutalising the Palestinians isn't an anomaly - it is the system. And the silence around it is the exact measure of our collective hypocrisy.
