@DFinsterwalder It was amazing and unforgettable experience for us both me and my kid. Giving him the chance to present in front of the crowd in OpenAI event something I never seen coming. Many thanks for you & OpenAI ❤️
40+ people. 11 hours. One shared goal: build, learn and help each other move forward using @OpenAI Codex.
During OpenAI Build Week, we brought a full-day community Buildathon to Göppingen. Participants travelled from across the region to spend last Saturday turning ideas into working projects with Codex.
A Buildathon has the energy of a hackathon, but without the competition. No rankings. No winning pitch. Just an open environment where beginners, experienced developers, students, business leaders, children and adults could work side by side.
The youngest active participant was seven. Together with his father, he worked on a child-friendly, smartphone-like device built around a Raspberry Pi. It limits who can be called and which media functions can be used, while a companion app lets parents manage access and check its location. Codex supported the microcontroller code, mobile app and final presentation.
Other projects included AI-generated postcards, games, image-recognition tools, software for editing YouTube videos and a physics simulation of coupled oscillators. One team gave an old rotary telephone a new purpose: with a Raspberry Pi inside, picking up the receiver now starts a conversation with an AI agent.
That range made the day special. Codex helped experienced builders move faster and gave newcomers a practical way to turn an idea into something they could test, improve and share. Most valuable was the community around the tools: people explaining approaches, reviewing ideas and helping one another get unstuck.
Thank you to everyone who joined, mentored and shared knowledge—and to OpenAI for supporting the community and providing catering. Thanks alot to Codex Ambassador Anish Navalgund who helped with mentoring and orga. Special thanks to @reach_vb , @paw_lean and @gabrielchua and @OpenAIDevs Developers for this amazing program.
Note: OpenAI Codex Ambassadors are selected community members, not OpenAI employees or official representatives. They organize community activities independently, and their statements are their own.

@attmous Your project was amazing. I loved it. And I loved that Alexander Weiss of Leonhard Weiss soldered your device. Having a C-Level Mittelstand leader/shareholder working hands on with a kid at a hackathon/buildathon is not something you see every day.
