Think of the movements that came under attack by the Democratic center leading up to and after the November loss: anti-monopoly, immigration, trans rights, Palestine, the ACLU. Then look at where Trump has picked his battles in his first 9 months in office.
It’s the exact opposite. Brazil followed the rule of law. The US abandoned the rule of law by allowing Trump to go unpunished for inciting an insurrection, something Rubio himself called a ‘national embarrassment’ and ‘anarchy’. at the time.
Five executive teams control 90% of American media. Many are following the federal government’s lead to determine what we can & can’t say.
“Fascism should more appropriately be called corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power.”
—Benito Mussolini
HUGE catch w/ this headline: while all 7 focus group Latinos regretted voting for Trump, not a SINGLE one would vote for Harris in a rerun.
Anti-Trump backlash alone simply is NOT gonna cut it. Dems NEED to change their message & stances if they want to win back nonwhite voters.
@bouba_kiki_@LushiousMassacr That's true, but there are rights we are losing right now. Aren't you concerned? If the privileged lose rights, then the oppressed won't ever get those rights.
@belle379@GhosterCoaster@mindyisser Would you like to move to a cheaper apartment to save money? Probably. But how desperate would you, as an American, need to be to move to a bad neighborhood? How desperate to move someplace that doesn't have running water? You're probably not willing to do those things.
@belle379@GhosterCoaster@mindyisser Also these agriculture jobs (legally) violate pay rates & safety standards Americans understand as basic rights. Immigrants from Central America are used to even worse working conditions, so they're willing to do stuff we know is bad for your health and won't do.
@belle379@GhosterCoaster@mindyisser Anyone can survive, but they need hope of a better future. US $ are worth so much more if you're sending them to central America that immigrants are willing to do it to improve their family's life. a low paying backbreaking job gets you nowhere if you're an American.
The discourse around Charlie Kirk is yet another reminder that the whole entire conservative model relies on 35-year-old men debating inexperienced college students.
I remember 2019, when Ben Shapiro faced the indignity of having to go up against Andrew Neil, an experienced professional, and he got destroyed. He lashed out. He called a renowned conservative broadcaster a “leftist.” Because when forced to go up against someone who was on his level, he found that he actually *couldn’t* defend his ideas quite so well when they were placed under scrutiny.
This is the core, fundamental fraudulence that lies at the heart of the American conservative movement: they can’t truly defend their sick and depraved ideas unless they’re playing the game on easy mode.
@JimS77806496@jongeeting That's not how public transit works, dude. Many companies have tried to run for-profit public transit, and they just neglected maintenance and safety in order to create a profit. It turns out being safe is unprofitable.
@jongeeting No the fight doesn't get pushed to 2026 which means yet another budget crisis next year. The Democrats need to hold the line right now. Republican districts cannot function without our taxes. Shapiro needs to stop being a pussy to look like Mr Bipartisan always selling out Philly
Incredible that PA Republicans and Governor Shapiro are letting SEPTA rot, all while it will be on full display for international guests next year. Man wants to be president but can't get money for the biggest transit agency in his state?
This is akin to liquidating a sizable portion of your retirement to keep the lights on. It is not a solution to anything, even if it’s preferable to the deep service cuts we were facing. We MUST get a permanent funding solution in this budget!
