Pleased to share that BPCL Mumbai Refinery has been honored with the National Award for Manufacturing Competitiveness (NAMC) – Gold Category and the Atmanirbhar Factory Recognition Award 2026 at the 12th National Awards for Manufacturing Competitiveness (NAMC) held in Mumbai on 17th July 2026.
The awards were presented by Shri H. Shankar, MD (CPCL) and Shri Anand Lui, Director (IRIM) in recognition of the refinery’s unwavering commitment to manufacturing excellence, operational efficiency, and the vision of self-reliance.
This prestigious recognition was received on behalf of BPCL Mumbai Refinery by Shri Mohan Mate, CGM Operations, Shri Ajay Pagare, Senior Manager – Environment, and Ms. Tanusmita Das, Manager – QMS.

BPCL marked a major step in sustainable innovation with the inauguration of a Photobioreactor-Based Municipal Liquid Waste (MLW) treatment pilot plant at its Chembur colony.
Developed in partnership with DBT-ICT Mumbai, the 0.2 MLD facility harnesses green algae technology to treat locally generated waste and recycle water for non-potable uses like gardening and fire safety—reducing reliance on municipal sources.
The ceremony was inaugurated by Padma Vibhushan Prof. M M Sharma (former Director, UDCT) in the presence of Padma Bhushan Prof. J B Joshi, Prof. A B Pandit (VC, ICT), Dr. Alka Sharma (DBT), and Dr. Sangita Kasture (MNRE). From BPCL, Shri Abhai Raj Singh Bhandari (ED, MR), Shri Chandrasekhar N (Head, R&D), and other senior leadership were present.
This initiative showcases the power of academia-industry collaboration and BPCL’s continued commitment to climate-positive solutions through green technology and resource conservation.
