Today’s cheap lunch. Leftover barbecue spam served on hamburger bun to be eaten with a fork and whole dill pickles from the dollar store. Last night I eat half of the barbecue spam with a side of macaroni and cheese made from panty groceries . Spam cost 3.60 a can , 1/2 bottle cheap bottled sauce( I try to buy a few when on sale and put in pantry). I fry spam slowly in slices in small amount of oil, brown each side and drain on paper towel. Then quickly drain any remaining oil from skillet and place spam back in pan- add 1/2 bottle barbecue sauce. Simmer on low till well heated - serve on bread or by itself. The cooking removes some saltiness. Cheap and delicious- 2 meals for one person,
Everything I received today at our local produce giveaway. Gave my daughter a bag of green beans (received 2 bags)and four egg plants. They just started giving out some meat, bread and cheese with this produce give away. I already put the cheese in the fridge it was a 1lb block of cheddar cheese. They will have another one at the end of the month. This really helps out. Bought 2 dozen eggs for .25cents each yesterday on Flashfoods. They had a best by April 10th. on them. Used a dozen last night. Hard boiled 6 and made scrambled eggs with the other 6.
Hi, What's everyone doing for bread lately?
In my Coastal Carolina region I've been doing best with the Clover Valley $1.99 20 ounce loaf, 22 slices, at the General.
I always buy with the $5 off $25 Saturday register coupon so it's 1.59, gets it under 15 cents a sandwich. I think the white might be even cheaper.
I bring this up because I noticed last week the price of name brand bread at the supermarkets has skyrocketed - four, five bucks a loaf. That makes a sandwich 50 cents before you even put anything on it!
DG is not best for everything, they are high on milk, eggs and basically anything refrigerated or frozen. But on our daily bread, they're go-to especially Saturdays.
I stopped at Tractor Supply last night and looked for the wood heating pellets as another member suggested for a better alternative to the more expensive cat litter. They didn't have the product labeled heating pellets but they had the exact same thing as Large or small pet bedding in 40 pounds at $4.99 per bag All natural pine pellets. I bought it. At home last night I mixed in a couple cups in her regular litter to see what she thought. No problem and this morning the pine pellets in the one corner she prefers had as mentioned absorbed and sorta turned to dust like. Absolutely ZERO odor and yes a better pine smell. Thank you for the suggestion. The cat litter in 14 pounds is anywhere from 8.99 - 10.99 to 14.99 and it can't always be found so I have had to buy less desireable litter that tracks terrible. This will be less expensive by far and I would say not as heavy as the clumping litter can be.
