Hi! You may know that I offer free help for IELTS Writing practice, as well as feedback on CVs and academic tasks. However, due to my financial situation, I will now charge for these. As I have international moots, DM me for rates. I apologise and thank you for the support.

本 (běn) is one of those characters that quietly connects a lot of Chinese words📚
At its core, 本 means “root” or “original.”
From that idea, it branches out in surprisingly logical ways.
It can point to what something really is (essence, basics).
It can point to what is this one, the current one (this week, local, myself).
And it also became the measure word for bound books.
That’s why 本 shows up in everything from textbooks and notebooks to business words about capital, cost, and profit or loss.
If you remember one shortcut:
本 often signals “the root” or “this one.”
Once you notice it, new vocabulary feels less random.
Save this for your pattern library. ✨
